Questions & Answers

Is this for the tuning slide as well as the slide?

It's designed for the main slide; it'd work on the tuning slide, but it's far too thin. Tuning slide grease, which is thicker and more viscous, would be used instead. Apply smoothly to the main slide, then wipe off the majority of it, leaving a thin film; Using distilled water, spray the area.

What is the amount of cream you use on the slide?

It's roughly the same size as a pencil eraser. I join the inner and outer slides on one side and spread it out, then do the same on the other.

It's all too easy to go overboard with the application - Getting it right can be difficult
3/5

The seller was prompt in delivering the item and making it simple for me to test it. I was transitioning from slide oil to this cream-based system, and my previous experience with cream-based systems could explain everything, so I'm not going to lower my rating too much. I couldn't get the right combination of cream and water to make the slide as smooth as it should have been in the upper positions. I cleaned the slide both inside and out, but I think I used too much on the stockings because it dragged from third to first. br>br>Adding water didn't help much. Everything is working fine now that I'm using a different system (the one with the big and small bottles).

I'm not going to use slide oil again
5/5

My trombone has been with me for nearly two decades. And I bought it secondhand. Unfortunately, I thought slide oil would suffice for the majority of that time. br>br>A few months ago, I began playing more frequently and discovered that I was consuming far too much oil to keep playing. I looked into slide creams and other alternatives in search of a better solution. br>br>It was a choice between slide o mix and Trombotine; many people seem to think slide o mix is the best, but the price put me off. I decided to try Trombotine because it was less expensive and users claimed that one tube would last a long time. br>br>After a thorough cleaning, I applied Trombotine as recommended in some YouTube videos and will never use slide oil again. br>br>Only Trombotine 3- has been reapplied. It's been a few months since I've done it four times. br>br>I am not a professional player, and I do not play every day. But one application gets me a few weeks of play (at the very least) with only a spritz of water on the slide. br>br>If I were a pro, I'd try the slide o mix. But I'm perfectly content with Trombotine as my primary source of entertainment.

A good lubricant for the trombone
4/5

Trombotine is a type of slide lube that is unique. It's a creme rather than an oil to squirt on the slide. To begin, take the creme and place a pea-sized ball on the end of the inner slide, then rub the creme on the slide as quickly as possible until you can feel the heat of the metal from friction. The creme will turn into a liquid as a result of the heat. A spray bottle is one thing that isn't included with the creme. The lubricant must be activated by spraying water on the slide. My slide made a harsh noise when I used regular slide oil, but with this lubricant, the slide moves more freely on its own, which greatly aided my playing. Trombotine is used by the majority of trombone players in the band where I play, and I would recommend it. The only reason I gave it one star is because there are no instructions included.

Superslick isn't even close to being the best
5/5

On my son's Jupiter student trombone, I'd been using Superslick, which was far superior to the original. When that became unavailable, I decided to get this instead, and it's even better! Smoothes out his beginner instrument's slide completely.

Enjoy a fantastic slide with Trombotine, but keep in mind that less is more with this product
5/5

Clean the slide inside and out, and put a teeny-tiny bit of it on the end of each stocking. I'm talking about the size of a small bead when I say tiny. Rub it into each slide until it is completely gone, then rub it in with the slide back and forth. Add a small amount of superslick slide treatment to each stocking and work it in with the slide again, then spray some water and enjoy a fantastic slide. br>br>In the past, I've used Yamaha "slide oil" (not oil, the stuff in the white bottle), Slide o Mix, Slide o Mix rapid comfort, and a few others. I haven't looked at the other stuff since thoroughly cleaning my slide and using it. This does not separate like the Slide o Mix, but it works well and produces a consistent and smooth slide. Every two weeks or so, I reapply. br>br>I use it on both of my main trombones, an Edwards t- trombone and an Edwards t- trombone. A Yamaha Custom YSL-350 and a Yamaha 350 891Z.

It lasts a long time and keeps its slickness for months
5/5

It lasts a long time and keeps its slickness for months. br>br>I don't play as much as I used to (usually twice a week), but I've switched from slide-o-phone to trombotine. mix. I like how little I have to use and how it re-uses what I already have. After being wetted with water, it lasts a long time. I clean my slide once a month and apply a little trombotine to the stockings. I took a four-month hiatus from playing recently - from early April to the weekend of July 4th concerts I hadn't cleaned the slide, but with a little water, it went right back to glass smooth action in no time. I am 100% converted from Slide-O. I've even tried it on a couple of older horns with bad slides, and it worked much better than the other compounds I'd tried. The action is as smooth as it gets when you have a good, straight slide.

The best slide cream on the market
5/5

I'm a professional brass player (trumpet/flugelhorn), and I've been learning trombone since I was a kid. A fellow trombone player suggested Trombotine to me. He is a pro who has been playing for a long time and swears by it. It's not hard to understand why after using it. Trombotine is a slide cream that is extremely effective (perhaps even more so than other brands). Apply a SMALL amount to/smooth over your slide, then spritz with water from your water bottle and voila! Your slide will glide across the table with ease. When your slide becomes sluggish, all you'll need is a water bottle. Trombotine works in tandem with water and should only be used sparingly and sporadically when necessary (which should not be very often if applied correctly and watered on a regular basis). br>br>This single tube should last you a long time; my friend said his current Trombotine tube has been in his possession for over a year. For the beginning player or the seasoned pro, this is a highly recommended product.

WAY BETTER THAN'slide oil
5/5

' Yes, you'll need to put in some effort. apply it. Put it to good use. not an excessive amount and give it a good spritz of water However, once you've nailed it, your slide will glide in and out with almost no noise and almost no drag! You'll never return to'slide oil'!.
