I have a separate one for greens. It doesn't seem to dry as well as my previous spinner. It's built to last. Salad spinners have been used by people living in RVs and other vehicles. Perhaps look for an old one (less PBPA in the laundry?). ) at a thrift store and give it a shot. It could also be more durable, as the new ones appear to break more frequently.
Yes, most Oxo products are BPA-free, and BPA-free is listed as a feature for this salad spinner on the Oxo website.
The lid on my sinner oxo good grip is completely opaque. As far as I can tell, the top and bottom parts do not separate. Is it true that some older models' tops do not separate for cleaning? I'm in desperate need of assistance! I'm extremely frustrated!
Yes, the excess water will be spun out. This trick was taught to me by a friend, and I've been using it in this manner ever since. I can even stuff a cotton Women's Tee shirt in there, but it takes about 40 pumps and one fabric flip to do so.

This sleek-looking device may appeal to those who value feng shui in the kitchen over efficiency. I'm a semi-professional writer and editor. I'm a pro athlete, and I couldn't get this thing to spin fast enough to remove water from a greasy zucchini. (Don't tell me the spinner wasn't made for zucchini, because that's a joke. ) Instead of being pinned to the sides by centrifugal force, stuff just lays in the middle at top speed. How on earth will the water spin off if the salad isn't pinned to the sides? Something else - If you look at the display photos, you'll notice that the first one shows a basket full of greens. Advertising that is deceptive! Because the spinner is positioned in the center of the basket, if you fill it more than halfway, the spinner will pin it down, preventing it from spinning freely. Although this product falls short of expectations, your dinner guests will admire the spinner and compliment you on how lovely it is. br>br>The good news is that if you leave the damp greens in the bowl long enough after spinning, gravity will remove enough water for them to air dry.
I believe those who claim the greens don't dry are overlooking a small, easy-to-miss step in the process. The small black piece should be slid away from the pump knob to unlock it, according to the instructions. You wouldn't know what to do if you didn't read the directions because the knob still pumps if you don't slide that little thing back. Sliding the knob back to full tilt improves the result, as does pressing hard on the stop button, which slings the last bit of water off the greens. br>br>I've had a few salad spinners, but none of them completely dry the greens. I simply place them on a dish towel for about 15 minutes before doing the paper towel/zip lock bag thing. That keeps them fresh for about a week and a half.
I hope this information is useful in assisting others in making the best decision possible. I saw this on America's Test Kitchen, and OXO is one of their favorite brands. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It's a DUD! br>br>It's a DUD! It has a pump action plunger to make the basket rotate, which it does, but at a slow speed; no matter how many times or how hard you mash on the plunger, it never gets fast enough to spin the water out of your wet leafy things. Wet is what goes in and wet is what comes out. Furthermore, the plunger mechanism is housed in a cup that protrudes into the basket, squashing your wet items in the middle and making it difficult to dry them when they're stuck under the plunger. This item was purchased by a large number of people, but it does not dry! I'm not sure what you're talking about! I don't usually leave feedback, but I felt compelled to comment on this contraption! Pathetic!.
When I first un-boxed this spinner, I was struck by how sturdy it appeared. I unboxed it and thought it might be worth the hefty price, but I ran into two problems: first, the lever that "locks" the pump became stuck (I had to re-box it); second, the pump itself became stuck (I had to re-box it); third, the pump itself became stuck (I had to re-box it); and finally, the pump I had to stop and disengage the lock lever before I could push the pump again because it was engaged) every time I pushed down on it. Second, the spinner is incapable of drying the greens quickly enough. Pumping the basket does not make it go faster; it appears to have a maximum speed of too slow. Following several rounds of spinning, the greens were still visibly damp. I'm going to return this Oxo Salad Spinner and replace it with something else.
My lettuce is still damp, and it becomes limp as a result. It appears that this spinner is of poor quality. Not a good idea.
For many years, I used and enjoyed the original OXO salad spinner. When it became inoperable, I assumed that the new and improved version would be even better. Not! It irritates me to no end. No matter how many times I spin them, the greens do not get nearly as dry. In comparison to the old OXO, the push button brake requires extra force to stop the spinning. My dish rack takes an eternity to dry the parts after they've been washed. And a large chip shattered when I dropped the top on the tile floor. I'm still picking up shards all over the place. The old OXO was dropped several times and managed to survive each time. The only pro I can think of is that putting the top into the base is a lot faster than it used to be. It doesn't make a fuss and just gets right to work. br>I'm looking for a new salad spinner right now. Thank- Thank you, Amazon, for your helpful reviews.
DISAPPOINTED! br>br>EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EX USELESS. I've had it for months and have experimented with different ways to use it. Will abandon the brand and purchase a different one.
We read all of the reviews and this was the best one, according to the reviews. NOT. We thought it was fine at first, but after 5 months of frustration spinning and spinning our lettuce only to have it wet all the time, we've decided to return it. I'm hoping we'll still be able to return it, as it was the most expensive!.
