To pre-heat with hog water, it only took one minute.
We've never had a leak, and it's in my husband's backpack on his way to work every day.
I use this to send my children's lunch to school; I prepare it at 8:00 a.m., and they eat around 11:00 a.m. My 5-year-old daughter complains that her food isn't hot, but it's just right for her to eat without blowing on it.

Preheat the food with boiling water for 5 minutes to keep it warm until lunchtime. 10 minutes later, drain the water, dry the thermos, and fill it with hot food.
I was really excited to buy this after reading the reviews, especially the ones for kids' lunches, because it was for my kindergartener. The weather is getting colder, so I'd like to send her to school with a nice hot lunch from home, such as spaghetti, which is her favorite! I followed one reviewer's advice and boiled water before transferring the contents to the container. But I was disappointed when my daughter came home and said it wasn't hot, and she refused to eat the "almost cold" Spaghetti. I wanted to try again and send her soup, but she preferred the predictable sandwich to the nearly cold soup. This was something I was hoping to enjoy.
Ehh, good, but I've found alternatives that are just as good or better for less money. My elementary school-aged child will enjoy the size. The size is ideal for a lunchbox. The handle on top allows my child to easily open and close the container without spilling anything. I like it for pastas and chicken nuggets, but I haven't tried it for soups yet. I fill it halfway with almost boiling water, then empty it and fill it with hot food, and it's ready in three minutes. My child complains that it isn't as hot as it should be after 4 hours. I've discovered two other brands that are less expensive and perform as well as or better than the original. I was a little let down by the thermos brand.
I bought this for my daughter's lunch at school. I used rice and beans as a side dish. Pre- Before putting hot food in it, I warmed it in the microwave for 10 minutes. My daughter eats at 11 a. m. , and the food was placed in the refrigerator at 7:45 a. m. 45am. By the time she ate lunch, the temperature had dropped to a comfortable level, according to her daughter.
A tight seal has been achieved. This will be perfect for rehydrating dehydrated foods while hiking, as I have arthritic hands. It's a LOT easier to open than any other thermos!.
For my elementary school-aged children, this is a good size. It maintains its temperature if heated before filling with hot water and then filled with HOT food. Lunch takes 3 to 4 hours to arrive, and the food is not cold. It does have a pressurized effect with extremely hot food, and it once completely sealed the lid shut, making it feel like you were opening a jar of pickles!.
It's the perfect size for morning oatmeal at work, which I make before I leave the house. It's still hot after several hours, even after coffee. It's just the right temperature to eat.
