It used to rust to the top every couple of years and I had to replace it every couple of years. I won't buy it As the quality declines, so does the cost. Condensed water is dripping into the water pot from this rusted metal plate. The rust that has formed in our water supply is awful, I don't know when it started but we have been drinking it on our own! A quick update In fact, this lid can be easily removed from the pot. I love having hot water available at our fingertips all the time, and the size of this model is perfect. We also like how the water doesn't sit too long as it would in a larger model. The design is tasteful, looks good on the countertop, and doesn't wear out. My family and I always had Zojirushi water heaters because they are a premium quality technology. Panasonic's do cost a premium, so I am glad I had the opportunity to test one. I am happy with the quality of this purchase, since both look and function precisely the same. The surface is very easy to clean as well.
