That's a bummer, Chris; mine did have a metal cap, but I don't know much else about it; the gallon, on the other hand, has served me well and hasn't broken.

I purchased this jar with the intention of making a DIY decor gift/coin bank for a friend who is obsessed with the film "Up," and it turned out beautifully! It arrived in excellent condition and was delivered promptly. A quarter or a gold dollar coin will easily fit through the opening at the top of the bottle. I didn't use the lid that came with it, but it does provide an airtight seal if needed. It isn't quite as big as I had hoped, but I still like it, and it does hold a gallon of liquid as promised.
We keep filtered water in these. I recommend getting the 38mm Poly Seal Screw Caps as well because the lid that came with them started to rust after two weeks.
I don't have to be concerned about plastic contaminants leaking. I purchased fourteen gallon glass bottles and wished I had done so many years ago. I switched from using empty plastic milk jugs to buying drinking water, and the taste difference is incredible. Plastic contaminants in my drinking water are no longer a concern for me. After reading reviews about the brittleness and high cost of BPA-free plastic bottles, I decided to purchase glass bottles. gallon containers are available for free. br>Shipping was quick and easy. The delivery was quick, and all of the bottles arrived undamaged. None of them have a nick or a crack. The packaging is fantastic. I use the packing boxes to transport, fill, and store my water jugs, and it's been an excellent purchasing experience. I would not hesitate to work with this company again.
This was to replace a broken one from a set of four I bought a while ago. Those four had plastic caps that could crack when tightened to prevent leaks while shaking the liquid for mixing. One did, in fact, break. So the metal lid appeals to me because it can be tightened to seal the cap to the jug tightly.
This was purchased as a gift for my girlfriend and me. We have a hard time saving money, so we needed a system that would prevent us from accessing the money we saved. We found this jar, and I came up with the idea of cutting a slit in the cover and gluing it down so we couldn't get to it, and then breaking the jar when it was full. However, when we received it, the opening was so small that we could only fit two fingers inside, which was good for us because we couldn't easily get the money out. We put a $20 bill in folded virtuous and tried to get it out for 5 minutes as a test, but we were unable to do so. That's exactly what we had in mind for this jar. So, if you plan on storing dollar bills and/or change, this would be ideal for you, as it was for us.
This is the perfect size jug for home brews like apple cider vinegar, ginger beers, and so on; I'm not particularly strong, so I've avoided the larger Carboy jugs (at least for now). I really like the shape and the thumb handle. Sitting on a counter (amidst all the other stuff I still need to clean up) it looks nice. br>To clean mine, I add some grit or sand textured rock material, some water, and vigorously swish it around, rinse, and then sterilize it with boiling water, or I can add hot water and a couple scoops of automatic dishwashing powder and swish it around. It also works.
