It's nothing more than a tray, after all. Until it's time to eat, it separates the wet and dry ingredients.

Is it possible to close the lid without the tray in place?

The tray does, in fact, fit inside the bowl's lip.

Is it a certain size? Is it better to use a cup size of 4 or 6?

Will the lid stay closed if the divider tray isn't present?

This salad bowl is fantastic. My husband received a similar bowl as a perk from his job, so I had another one. The only feature I wish this bowl had that his work bowl does is that the top piece with all the compartments isn't an insulated piece that can be frozen like an ice pack to keep the salad cold until it's time to eat. This isn't really an issue. Your salad will stay cold until you're ready to eat it if you keep an ice pack in an insulated lunchbox with the bowl. The entire thing can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher. It appeals to me.

I wasn't expecting the plastic to last as long as it does. Putting all of the pieces in the dishwasher has been a breeze for me. This product is fantastic, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Overall, it works, but I'm sure I could've found a better one if I looked harder. The plastic fork that came with it is super cheap, and the dressing container, as well as the top that is divided to put your veggies, etc. , could be bigger.

To be honest, this thing was a waste of time. It is extremely flimsy and of poor quality. It's something I'd expect to find for a buck at a dollar store or a few dollars at Walmart, rather than the $10 I paid.
