A knife cuts the board in two directions. This is not a "jelly" type of board.
The "angle" is on either side of the board. There are no issues with the side where the meat is held with pegs. The board is at an angle and its deep lip is wonderful for holding roast to cut meat with the knife, but the knife "skips" on the pegs as they are sharp. Our purpose of using the board is mostly to cut watermelon on the plain side. Being able to stop watermelon juice from dripping onto your counter is a treat. I always have problems cutting tomatoes with all of my other cutting boards. No matter how much juice I use, even though I use those cutting boards with the "juice grooves", it always overflows.
