Questions & Answers

I'm not sure what kind of metal it is. It appears to be made of aluminum and has chrome handles, correct?

Although I am not certain, I believe you are correct. I just took it out of the cabinet to take a look at it, lol. It looks like it's made of aluminum and has a stainless steel handle. It had no effect on the color of the pot in which it was sitting.

How big of a pot do you need to cover the lids?

I use an 8-quart pot with a 6-inch height. I really like it, but I have to warn you that because it's aluminum, it discolors after the first use. It, on the other hand, works like a charm. I'll never be able to do it again without it.

Is it possible to use my Tattler EZ seal plastic lid tops without the sealing rings in this?

They won't fit, no way! They're too big to fit in the slots!

Is it possible to sterilize your lids by putting this in the dishwasher?

That is something I would never have thought of. They're supposed to be boiled, according to my instructions. It takes only a few minutes to boil them, but it takes a long time to run the dishwasher.

In the cabinet, it's ideal for storing metal rings and lids
5/5

It's where I keep all of my metal lids and rings! There's plenty of room for ten of each. It's small enough to fit next to tall mason jars on the shelf. I've looked for a variety of storage options and this is by far the best I've found!.

It's not enough to be good
3/5

I'm not a fan of the product's quality. When I put the rack in the boiling water, a residue forms on the surface. What is it? I'm not sure. Something appears to be erupting from the metal. Or there could be a coating on the rack that isn't sticking. I'm sorry, but I don't have a better guess. I've attached photos to show the scum on the water and the pan's side. I've washed the rack a total of six or eight times now. I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to stop making such a mess. This makes me wonder if that residue has coated my lids, and what will happen to my jams and jellies as a result. I like the product's functionality, and I'll see what I can find in my local kitchen store.

It's fantastic
5/5

In the dishwasher, this rack does a fantastic job. It's the ideal size for next to the silverware holder. Holds a good number of lids, 12 in total, including regular and wide lids. The only thing I don't like about it is that it discolored after the first use. However, I continue to use it on a regular basis.

For canning, this is a must-have
5/5

This is a fantastic little bugger! Years and years ago, I wished I had had one. It's a lot easier to boil the lids and keep them in hot water, then remove the rack with the wooden knob, which doesn't get hot, and lift the lids by the sides to put them on the canning jars. That's a neat idea.

Over time, it oxidizes and necessitates a large pot
3/5

When I first began canning, I purchased one of these. I couldn't find a magnetic lid lifter at the time, and prying hot lids from the bottom of the pot with a fork isn't much fun. So, even though I had to use a second deep pot (and a lot of water) to sterilize the lids, it worked. It has, however, oxidized to the point where it left marks on the bottom of my pot the last time I used it. I'm not going to use it again, and I'm not going to replace it because I now have a magnetic lid lifter. Especially since many of the new reviews claim that it oxidizes after just one or two uses. At the very least, I got a lot of use out of mine before it started to oxidize.

Canning has been a part of my life for 35 years. This item has failed to impress me. Because the lids are quite deep in the rack, you can't get them out by grabbing the sides; you'll have to grab them from the front and back (top and bottom). Sterilization loses its effectiveness the moment you touch the underside. This item, in my opinion, would work better if it were a little shallower. If you could grab the lids by the sides at the equator (9:00 a. m. ), that would be possible. 00 and 3: 00) it'll suffice; However, they are currently at 2: Between the hours of 00 and 10, I can't use 00 because it doesn't work for me. I returned to my magnetic lid lifter almost immediately. I simply placed the lids in a shallow sauce pan with the underside facing down and let them simmer. Then, one by one, I take them out. one, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.

Cost and durability are two important factors to consider
5/5

If you're going to be canning a lot, this is exactly what you'll need. I've canned 228 jars so far and wish I'd had this when I first started. I'd drop my lids/flats in a saucepan of boiling water, but couldn't seem to get them out. (I don't have a magnet either. ) I believe this would be more effective than using a magnet. Can sterilize a large number of items at once, but more importantly, can pick up a large number of items without touching them. I'd suggest it.

It makes the process of canning a tad easier
5/5

This is an excellent device for storing and making accessible the cleaned lids. To thoroughly clean them, I load the rack and submerge it in a pan of hot water for a few minutes, then remove it and drain it on a piece of paper towel, where I can easily extract one lid at a time to place on each jar of canned goods. It can hold both wide mouth and regular jar lids, which I use on my jelly jars. This purchase has exceeded my expectations. It makes the canning process easier, and any help is appreciated.
