Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use it to grind spices?

The manual says so. There is no way! However, if you were considering grinding coffee beans, this is a fantastic option!

Is this a good grinder for making french press coffee?

To make a french press, simply use the course setting. Mine, on the other hand, is inconsistent in terms of grind size and will produce a fine grind in addition to the coarse. I'd grind a few more grams and avoid the fine grind that clings to the cup's top.

What else could go wrong with this machine?

The manual suggests that it should only be used for coffee granules.

Is it possible to purchase only the container?

Inquire with the maker. They're incredibly beneficial.

It causes the beans to be broken
3/5

That's all I've got to say on the subject. *Review from the beginning* - Even on the finest setting, the grinds aren't fine enough for espresso, but I like it in general. For the French press, it's ideal. br>**Update @ 2 months** I liked the grind size for my french press at first, but after using it, I've found it to be far too inconsistent. Even with coffee from the same batch and freshness, the amount of fines varies dramatically from grind to grind. Sometimes I have a great cup, and other times there's a silt layer of bitterness lurking at the bottom of my brew like an ambush predator. It also provides me with *one* grind: Everything is scattered about. Increasing or decreasing the grind size has no effect. Huge shards are always mixed in with medium grinds and varying amounts of fines (fines can account for up to 1/4 of a grind!). WTH? The static scatters grinds across your counter and makes removing the dose from the collection unit difficult. It is not precise in any way, so if you want control or any measure of repeatable results, don't use it. Continue on your way. Save the $50 for something more worthwhile later, or invest in a hand grinder. Ground coffee beans can be purchased at a market or a coffee shop. Use a pestle and mortar to smash the ingredients together. Use a rock and a steel bowl. This is a complete squander of funds. My blade grinder is much more effective.

I hand grind and decided to buy an electric grinder to save time
3/5

I filled the hopper with 12 cups of coffee and a course grind because that is the best setting for the coffee I buy and drink. I got a super fine powder from this grinder, and it used the entire hopper full of beans for at least 5-minutes. 6 – 12 cup coffee pots with beans I tried it again, with the same result, and on the fine setting, with the same result; all I got was a super fine powder. A lot of good coffee has been squandered and is now useless. It's worth the time and effort to grind by hand if you're returning for a refund.

I've had this grinder for four months and believe the time is right for a review because of the use and timing
5/5

br>br>A decent burr grinder, but not exceptional! The blades appear to have worn out after about 150 grinds, and/or the grind setting mechanism isn't working properly, as the grinds are consistently inconsistent and don't meet standards. br>I tried contacting Shardon for replacement blades but was unsuccessful. I've spoken with a number of people, but nothing seems to be happening to help me rectify this unacceptably bad situation. Finally, I am dissatisfied with Shandon for failing to support and provide better customer service. br>I am now forced to discard this burr grinder and seek out a better, more dependable, and useful burr grinder from other sources.

Cleanup was good but a bit messy
3/5

This was purchased to help me with my addiction to freshly ground coffee. I'm on a budget, so I went with the mid-range model, which has some great features like ground size and amount to grind settings. I like that you can stop the grinding at any time if you think it's been ground too finely or coarsely. Also useful as a reserve is the hopper. Because I drink a pot of tea every day, I have to refill every two days. br>br>However, because the grounds are dispersed into the holding canister from the side rather than the top, grounds end up all over the backside of the canister and grinder, which can be difficult to clean if you have fine grounds. The presence of grounds is a given. If you're a clean freak like me, this means you have to clean every time you grind. br>br>In general, I'm not overly pleased or dissatisfied. I'd give it a "meh" rating if there was such a thing. If the design was top down rather than side fill, I would give it a higher rating.

Grinder is extremely unreliable
3/5

Very poor grind quality, to put it another way. Take a look at the photos of the grind and chunks in the espresso machine! br>My Mr Coffee grinder, which costs $15, is fantastic! This is something that needs to grind slowly and steadily. Please don't rush me, and don't give me any crap grinds. Dissatisfied to the point of indifference.

Superior- a design for a FLAT burr grinder for under $100! You'll probably be pleased as long as you don't expect a $2,000 Mahlkönig flat burr coffee grinder
5/5

br>br>Like nearly all FLAT burr grinders, this little Shardor coffee mill is fairly consistent (remember - it's a small coffee mill). There is no such thing as a 'kilo-calorie' buck' Mahlkönig), and if you set it up correctly, it won't burn your grind. br>br>I only make one (ONE) cup of coffee at a time with it - period! It's ideal for that, and I have to say, the coffee tastes better than any pre-ground coffee. I've had a lot of ground coffee. even from an excellent cup of coffee roasting houses, and even coffee varieties such as the fabled Jamaican Blue Mountain. br>br>There is one caveat: Be sure to *click* everything back into place when you disassemble and reassemble the coffee grinder! I know it sounds silly, but if you don't, the grind will likely be inconsistent, leading you to believe the grinder is broken. br>br>When cleaning it, I recommend turning the grind selection knob all the way back to the first "coarse" setting, then putting the top portion of the grinder back together, listening for, and feeling the *click*! Then, once you've done that, turn the knob clockwise to your desired setting, which in my case is a slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly-slightly- a more refined "pour-" set to "over" People always complain about the fine coffee 'dust' that these small mills produce, and you'll get some of it with this Shardor as well. However, because of the design of the container into which the ground coffee is placed and the fact that it snaps tightly into place in the unit's base, you only have a small amount of it. It comes with a coffee measurer and brush, making cleanup a breeze. br>br>Overall, it's a great grinder at a reasonable price. It's very easy to store because it has a groove in the bottom of the base where the electrical cord can be wound, and it's nice and compact in design so it won't take up a lot of counter space - such as the Mahlkönig grinders, which are fantastic but very large, heavy, and expensive!.

For the price, this is a fantastic burr grinder
4/5

I gave it as a gift, and the recipient adores it. It's a little loud, like most burr grinders, but it gets the job done. To accommodate various coffee brewing methods, there are enough different settings for amount and grind size. It has so far performed as expected after several months of use. This was one of the more reasonably priced burr grinders, and it has performed admirably thus far.
