How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

This meter provides lab-quality performance and features seven different functions
Conductivity, TDS, Salinity, Resistivity, pH, mV and temperature are measured
The pH calibration is automatic and requires a single button press (4, 7 and 10 pH)
For improved accuracy, the pH calibration can be performed three times
Eight calibration solutions from the USA, Europe, and China series can be automatically recognized by one point conductivity calibration

Questions & Answers

How can I get a calibration certificate for the Exstick EC500?

Unfortunately, this product does not, but we are able to obtain a Certificate of Conformance from Extech on your behalf if you purchase it through

The readings are given in two different ways, how?

Temperature or conductivity as a function of salinity. In addition, the total solids dissolved. Despite the obvious flaws in this meter, I really enjoy it. During the summer, it was used to test jars

Is there a chance this will detect the fluctuations in marine salinity (35 ppt) along the coast?

Using this meter you can determine whether it is at or above 9 levels of salinity. A 99g/L (parts per thousand) concentration is acceptable. In the case of 35ppt, measurements are not possible, since 35ppt is higher than the measurement range. You could, however, dilute the water sample (say 10x), in the field, using either bottled water (which has the same salinity as your sample) or DI water, and you would be About 5 grams per liter. At 0, you should be able to detect fluctuations. Detection of 1ppt fluctuations in the diluted water is possible by detecting the 1ppt variations on the diluted

How about using this as a soil amendment?

Calibrating the machine as soon as possible is recommended
3/5

You should return it as soon as possible if it doesn't calibrate. Returning this to Amazon would have been a better idea.
As part of my job, I manage water quality testing equipment every month, and I therefore wanted to have some gear of my own to help with river keeper projects. I bought this device from Amazon a few years ago, but I was unable to calibrate it. As I am familiar with calibration methods for other brands of meters, the calibration procedure for this one was very similar, but the problem is that it would never read correctly, thus it could never be calibrated properly. made the mistake of trying to contact the manufacturer. I really wanted it to work, but I didn't think it would In the beginning, it would not calibrate so I spent weeks dealing with the manufacturer by email, and eventually they promised to send me a replacement, but it has been almost a month and nobody has responded to my emails, so it seems like they were just promising a replacement to never come. My experience with the manufacturer was so disappointing I would never buy another product from them. The manufacturer might not be able to resolve a defective unit, so you may want to return it to Amazon right away.

Two months later, the job ceased to exist
3/5

In the first month, these meters worked well, but after two months they stopped working and read left-handed when they should have read right-handed. This is a good for testing solutions with known pH values. I would not recommend it for professional use, but there is a decent warranty so that's why I am They became inoperable due to a bad probe end, which is most likely why they stopped working, but something like that shouldn't happen after 2 months of use. I've also been informed that the whole meter is considered a "replaceable part", which I'm not happy about. Have money to spend on a YSI meter to get a good meter that will do its job as a professional meter.

I am disappointed
3/5

A very disappointed person. This is the second time I have experienced faulty calibration from these units. In one case, the pH will not be calibrated and in the other, it will not be calibrated. For a couple months, they work well, and then they just stop calibrating. Changing the probe calibrates the meter for a while, and then it stops reading correctly. I have tried new solutions, soaking the probe, adjusting the meter, and even changing the batteries. Despite being easy to use, these meters don't last very long, even with proper care and using them properly. It's a shame because I like the simplistic design of these meters.

With a great deal of portability and accuracy, this is a great product
5/5

In my position as a senior chemist in an environmental laboratory, I have already used the ExStik II quite a bit to measure conductivity, temperature, and pH of solutions for liquid chromatography. A mass spectrometer works in tandem with another instrument. The response time (pretty quick) is excellent and the behavior is as accurate as you can get without purchasing a pH meter or conductivity meter separately. A portable unit like this one is a real plus. Nevertheless, it IS reproducible with the same measurements from day to day.

Easy to use, uses accurate data, and is useful
5/5

it to identify changes in water quality after I have drawn a sample from my private well and send it to the lab. My experience with this tester is that it is easy to use and as accurate as any I have seen. It takes less than five minutes to measure TDS, salinity, PH and conductivity from a single sample. This would be ideal if this probe could also test for other contaminants (iron, nitrates, chlorine, etc), but for what it offers, this is a great probe which gives you an idea of the quality of your water in a matter of seconds.
This is a great way to learn about testing water quality.

I bought this Extech EC400 Conductivity, TDS, Salinity, and Temperature meter to determine the salt content of our pool after having it evaluated by a chemist
5/5

Our home has a saltwater pool that has an indoor heater It is important to keep a salt level in the chlorinator as it is responsible for the chlorination process. Normally, you would use the Salinity feature, which will display the NaCl (salt) or ppt (parts per thousand) values in ppm (parts per million). I recommend that I maintain my pool between 2800 and 3200 Three thousand two hundred parts per million salt content. This content will be read by the extech using ppt, which will be level The presentation consists of 2 pages. In this case, the instrument is not just In order to compare it with the instruments and standards we have in the lab, I took it there as soon as I received it. As a first test, I applied 500 ppm NaCl to the EC400 and it read 501, which is outstanding. My next step was to compare readings from several different waters between the EC400 and our expensive laboratory instruments, and, again, I found excellent agreement between the two devices. *br/
There are a lot of features on this instrument, so it might seem intimidating at first. I only have a small problem with the display screen for my eyes, but everything else about this product is excellent. Be sure to rinse the probes with purified water (distilled water is good) to ensure that they stay clean, which in turn will assist in keeping the probes calibrated. A malfunction is more likely to occur if it gets soaked in really nasty water, oils, acids, or caustic liquids. The first time I used it, it seemed really good. I've not had it for a long time, but I'm pleased with what I see. As well as checking purified water I buy in the store for drinking or home brewing, I intend to use the probe to check the pH level of the water. I have a swimming pool with water that runs about 3 inches deep. Water with zero part per million or 3000 parts per million. My tap water runs about 300 parts per million salt, and purified water runs about 10 parts per million salt. Ultrapure water runs 0. 1 parts per million salt. Salinity instruments, including this one, look at salt concentration in the same way they look at NaCl, so the concentration reported is the same as what is read. misleading if there are too many other salts in the water you are measuring, and the concentration is not an accurate reflection of the real amount of salt in the water. *Better living through chemistry.

The setup is not very easy, but it is accurate
5/5

There is no way this will be suitable for the casual user, as you need to order the calibration liquid and calibrate it afterward. The software is pretty good for the price, if you don't mind the extra work.
