It does not appear to have a fresh water version, I believe the one I have is only for salt water.
In short, yes. Fresh water aquariums and salt water aquariums both suffer when nitrite levels are high. Decaying uneaten food on the bottom of the tank which may even have been buried by sand and gravel is one of the causes of high nitrite levels.

This I thought was nitrate, but it is nitrite. I didn't read it. I purchased it without reading it. As all Hanna checkers do, this one does as well, but I would love to see a nitrate tester attached to it.
They give very precise results when the tests are properly performed and readings are consistent from one to another, but I would recommend using their lab grade water as my RODI shows 0 TDS but gives different results than theirs. The aquarium water sample is also extremely small compared to the base solution, so any error in measurement has a drastic effect on the results.
We've just got our salt water tank going. The product works well for me and I highly recommend it. Using strips was a lot more difficult than this.

This is a pretty straight-forward process. I can only say what more can be said with some patience and practice. She wants seven more words and now she has.
The interface is intuitive. Rather than keep buying test powder once the sample you get with the meter has been consumed, you can just buy these little packets. I find that to be a little.
I like it. I don't have to guess anymore.
