This is caused by a slippage of the thumb roller and an inaccurate caliper

Thumb roller for precision setting has a different number of threads per unit of length, but since it slips off, it is extremely difficult to obtain a precise measurement regarding the threads per unit of length. This is a noticeable manufacturing defect. Our equipment has not been used since our purchase a few months ago, so we just discovered the problem now. In addition, measurements of ID versus OD present another issue. You get measurements when you measure OD, but they could be all right, if the above issue is resolved. It is important to note, however, that when measuring ID, the moveable leg does not remain parallel to the fixed leg, so the measurement reading will not be accurate. Alternatively, the scale attached to the moveable leg can move axially too, while it should only be able to move longitudinally. In this case, I would reconsider my review in case they changed the caliper to one that does not have these issues. Otherwise, I'm afraid I lost my money and would recommend you avoid buying the product. Thanks for letting me know.

An excellent option for precision measurement over a long distance at a good price

Using it, one is able to perform precision measurements on things like motorcycle frames, suspension geometry, and I like it a lot. The construction of the unit is a little rough, you can tell a Starrett from one of these. In order to move the lower jaw, for example, you must tighten the fine adjust against the travel limit, or else the boss of the fine adjust will catch and you will not be able to move the jaw. You can talk to it and get satisfying results after a short while.

A SCRATCH on the box is evidence that this item has been used

The box is also moldy. There was mold on the case and the calibrator appears to have been used. There was a terrible problem with the product when it arrived.
