Metal is used for all of the points and screws. I'm not sure what kind of metal it is. I've never used them on metal, but I believe they'd scribe well.

This trammel is easy to operate, has a simple, functional design, and is reasonably priced. When repairing old Autoharps with surfaces that prevent direct measurements, I use the instrument to take measurements and lay out the layout. It can't just be measured with a tape measure. I'm extremely happy.
The pencil holder is a complete waste of time. The starett set is twice the price, but it holds a pencil without issue, so it might be fine if you're scratching with the points.
These are fantastic suggestions. I frequently create parts that are curved and round. It was easy to enlarge the opening; I prefer Pentel clicky pencils because they save me time and frustration when sharpening.
You'll have to supply the "beam," but I was able to get by with just a piece of hardwood.
Small projects will benefit from it. It was used to cut an 18-inch circle out of plywood.
You can go as long as you want with these.
The points are made of plastic and are not very long lasting. The clamp pads are made of plastic, and I'm pretty sure they'll break soon. I've only just unboxed it, and the paint is already peeling. This tool's long-term viability concerns me.
Trammels are a good set. The only disadvantage is that the jaws are designed for thin materials.
