Hi Eric, I'm not sure about a sharpie, but it should be able to hold a regular pencil. If it doesn't, you could stuff one into the hollow of your body.

While quality tools are expensive, I never have buyer's remorse when I purchase them. Once you've purchased something, you've only got one chance to cry. What you pay for is exactly what you get. This is a tool that will be passed down through the generations. When applying pressure, the hinge is very rigid and does not bow or deflect. Anyone who works in the construction industry is familiar with the "feel" of a good tool in their hand. You will not be dissatisfied with this purchase. These get 5 out of 5 stars from me. The only reason for the 4 star rating is that it was shipped in a bubble wrap envelope that provided no protection at all to the starret box. It's completely unusable because it's been smashed flat. This is understandable given that machine tools are the only items in the factory box that I actually like to keep. Despite this, the tool was unharmed, and I'm pleased with their performance.
The metal pin on one side can be replaced with a pencil, transforming this compass or set of scribes into a superior tool. They appear to be expensive, but they will outlast me, and the micro adjustment wheels are extremely useful if you plan to use them as scribes like I do.
It's not always easy to tell which ones I'm talking about. Starrett. Love it. It's sometimes difficult to tell which ones I bought and which ones were passed down from my grandfather (and I'm in my 70s). In 100 years, this device will still be functional.
I'm a finish carpenter and I use them all the time, so they're great professional dividers.
The only reason it didn't get five stars was because of the price. You will not be dissatisfied in the least.
I found exactly what I needed in a scriber. To be sure, it's pricey, but the quality is outstanding. You can use the metal scriber or a wooden pencil.
I'm a cabinet maker/installer in need of a good scribing tool. br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>purchased an accuscri So spend a lot of money on this piece of garbage! Quality appears to be good at first glance. heavy and well-built- Then I took out the point and replaced it with a pencil-shaped object. The locknut appeared to be sloppy/loose right away- attepmted, pencil installed! Trying to tighten the nut, but it won't budge! The threads on the locking ring and nut are extremely sloppy and loose (it feels stripped, but it isn't). I expect quality for this kind of money, and I don't want to deal with returns or anything like that! I'm completely dissatisfied with this purchase!.
It's a high-quality tool, but it's also the most fiddly thing you could use on a daily basis.
