It is a beautiful stone. Home shops are appealing to me because they are accurate and large. My work bench is equipped with a height gauge. It sits in the corner of the work area and provides an ideal place to inspect as well as mark steel for cutting and To cover the bottom, I used carpenter's glue to glue felt to it. The stone can be moved freely up and down my bench top without being gouged or scratched by it. If you get one of these, you have a nice upgrade project. It is ideal to have a 2" thick wall. Why get the bigger unit for one that's only 9 x 12 - I don't get the value in it There is a chance The home shop would probably like 1" thick plywood (it is actually fairly thin). good to me as well. For this task, a surface plate of just the right size was just the thing. Keeping it stored away will not be a problem. It is flat, making it a good choice for a surface plate. It is far and away the best value for money. It is advertised as having a tolerance of 003". Mine had the tolerance set at 0. That was the certification that came with it. A perfect flat should be 001" long. Item shipped from the manufacturer not Amazon, so it arrived quickly. As it is of higher quality than I need, I've used it to sand knife scales and pistol grips perfectly flat and apply leather craft glue without having to use grain. This is a good choice if you need a surface plate.
This granite piece was delivered on time, well packaged, and is perfect for my needs as a sound isolation platform for my subwoofer system. The cost of other stones specifically made for this purpose is two times higher.
