Questions & Answers

In comparison to, say, a fluke 985, how accurate is this product?

I've never used the fluke, but it appears to be a professional device, so I'm guessing it won't provide you with as precise a particulate calculation. It essentially has a one-star rating. Only pm 2 is measured on a five-point scale for particulates. There are five particles total. In addition, there is a separate scale for VOCs. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and have noticed that when I cook, it drops from a 100 to around 65, but I bought it to detect fumes from my neighbor's cooking, and despite the fact that I could clearly smell their smoke, my awair was still registering at 95, so it didn't quite do what I had hoped.

Is this capable of detecting gas leaks from a stove or heating system?

No > That will necessitate the use of a carbon monoxide detector. Lower ppm levels of carbon monoxide (from faulty stoves or furnaces) are far more dangerous. br>br>What you get with this air quality monitor is a reading of carbon dioxide, which humans exhale (and which is generally not harmful in low parts per million, but which becomes stuffy when a house is crowded and signals the need to open a window for fresh air, etc.). Houseplants can also assist in the conversion of CO2 to oxygen.

Is formaldehyde going to be detected?

No, it detects all VOCs, not just one type. You'll need a formaldehyde-specific air monitor.

False advertising and the disappearance of features

CAUTION: Factory- VOC Sensors that aren't working
3/5

I ordered one, and it showed VOC levels that were far higher than what was considered safe or what I had expected. It made me feel a little uneasy. I didn't trust the sensor, so I bought a replacement that read normal levels at much lower levels. br>br>I contacted customer service to have the problem resolved, and I tried several resets, but the readings of the sensors right next to each other were still drastically different. My emails were no longer being answered by the company.

Connecting to the network is not a user-friendly process
3/5

I spent two days trying to get it to connect to my WiFi system, following all of the instructions and essentially resetting the entire system. I'm also fairly knowledgeable about network and WiFi systems, and it wouldn't connect. This should be a relatively simple hookup into the 2. for such a simple machine. Despite the fact that it appears to be a 4 system, it is not. After returning it, I'll investigate other possibilities.

Poor performance and quality on a good platform
3/5

This monitor was purchased in September of last year. Up until last week, it worked flawlessly. Then I lost connection to the app, and then the unit wouldn't connect or give any readings for a while. They were aware of the issue, according to Awair, and were working to resolve it. Despite the fact that the device is now operational after a week, it only connects to my app on a sporadic basis. It was not worth the trouble for the money, which was a shame because they had a great platform. Amazon has finally agreed to accept the item and issue a refund. Much more than Awair had to offer. They didn't intend to provide a replacement unit. Customer service is abysmal, and the company's business ethics are deplorable.

When working from home, you want to have peace of mind
5/5

I was concerned about the air quality in my home office now that I'm working from home full time, as are many of us, and this device helped me to quickly diagnose the problems and see the immediate results of taking steps to improve it (cracking open a window when CO2 levels are too high, getting a humidifier to combat the dry desert climate, and so on). br>br>The device looks great, and the device's display is simple to understand once you've figured out what each of the bars means. I also like how the display can be customized to show any of the metrics separately or used as a simple clock. I also like the ability to adjust the light level and the sleep mode, which would be useful in a bedroom. br>br>Also, I've found the mobile software to be excellent. I enjoy being able to see the impact of my actions in graph form and track trends over time. Unlike some of the other posters here, I haven't had any trouble keeping it connected to WiFi, though I understand how frustrating that would be. Overall, I'd highly recommend this if you've been spending more time at home recently and are concerned about your air quality.

Wifi would be useless

I tried a few different wifi connections but couldn't get the unit to connect. There was no technical assistance available. existence and was unable to assist. Both of the items I purchased had to be returned. I was dissatisfied to say the least.

I was unable to connect to the internet via WiFi
3/5

My WiFi would not connect. With the rise of Kindles and iPads, I've come to expect things like this to work out of the box. Because it didn't, it'll be returned.

It's working perfectly
5/5

I debated whether or not to buy this because of the price, but it is well worth it. The app is well-designed and contains a wealth of useful data. recommendations, as well as a widget for a quick look at air quality. There are also push notifications available in the event that air quality deteriorates. br>br>Accuracy is difficult to assess because I lack professional testing equipment, but based on the previous week, everything appears to be fairly stable with little variation. CO2 does, in fact, change based on environmental conditions, as I discovered. If I cook on my gas stove without using the exhaust vent, the levels will gradually rise. It will start to fall as soon as I turn on the vent and crack a window. PM2. 5 corresponds to the amount of time I use my HEPA filter. I used to turn them off at night, but I discovered that the PM2 levels had increased by the morning. Temperature and humidity are spot on with my thermostat, so 5 was a bit high until I ran them again for several hours. br>br>Despite the photos, the unit is quite small and will fit in any case. Another advantage is that the power plug is USBC, which allows you to use a longer cable if necessary.
