To cut it, one would have to use a heavy duty pair of An aviation tin snip or a hack saw would work. This was done with a Dremel tool and the cutting wheel.

The grill grate would be useful as a grill for a collapsible hiking stove, wouldn't it? Are they strong enough to support a small steak or breast of chicken?

I received the piece just now. There is some kind of oily coating on it that makes it feel good. Can I paint it after I remove the coating? What is the best way to do this?

It does feel oily to me, you are right. A manufacturing process requires the use of oil as a lubricant. Painting can be easily accomplished by washing it with a solvent such as paint thinner or denatured alcohol prior to painting. Additionally, gasoline will work as long as it is handled with care, as it can be hazardous. Wishing you the best of luck.

What is the best way to bend this?

It is probably not possible to bend this metal by hand, since the finished product would not look professional. If the final appearance does not matter and you have a good vise, pliers, hammer, and anvil, I would think you could bend it. Sheet metal shops in my area are capable of bending my metal with a metal brake.

This is what I bought to use in my small convection oven to dry chipotle and other vegetables. There was no way to keep everything in place with the wire racks. I love the perforated stainless steel sheet that works great in my project Flow of air is allowed, but not of chile spores.
