Questions & Answers

Is it possible to cut shapes out of it before applying the epoxy?

Yes, but the weaves' integrity begins to deteriorate. It's also a lot easier to push the woven strands apart and leave gaps as you apply the epoxy. What we usually do is: If we have a 2"x2" square, we should use a 3"x3" square and belt sand the rest; this takes a little longer but is very effective.

Is the mix ratio measured in pounds or in cubic feet?

Weight was the method I used.

What is the minimum number of layers I should wear?

Lawyers who specialize in resin? That is dependent on how you intend to use it. For sanding, you'll require at least three. That way, while sanding it down, you won't cut through the resin. I apply about 6 coats of paint to my own body.

This product helped me repair a damaged carbon fiber, and it healed nicely. Is it possible to apply a second layer on top to ensure structural integrity?

You must wait 24 hours before applying the second coat, and you must send it before applying the second coat.

This Carbon Fiber kit is fantastic
5/5

People who say it doesn't work or that the resin is bad are doing something wrong; don't be fooled by their criticisms; if you do things correctly, it works wonders; just figure out what you should do before purchasing it. That is dependent on the outcome; however, I strongly advise you to do so. I've included some photos of the pieces I'm working on (which aren't quite finished).

This is a good product that can be used for repairs and fabrication
4/5

My repairs of various damaged CF sporting equipment (bike frame, kayak paddle shaft) went well with the CF and epoxy. To make the epoxy, combine 1 part epoxy with 1 part water. 1 in terms of weight. Because there is no easy way to measure small volumes, mixing small batches of epoxy by weight with a small kitchen scale is convenient. However, I noticed that the resin is significantly denser than the hardener, so the volume will be incorrect if you mix 1:3. 1 in terms of mass I calculated that the resin is about 20 denser than the hardener and used a weight ratio of 1. 1 Resin: To keep the volumes equal, use a hardener. At room temperature, the mixed epoxy cures relatively slowly. If you need to speed up the curing reaction rate, heat the wet assembly well above room temperature. If you don't want to wait days, a small heater, a closed lightbulb, or placing the part in a hot furnace mechanical room (100F) can all be used. br> I had no problems with the epoxy prematurely gelling as others have reported, and I am happy with the product. br> The CF sheet weave is fairly loose, so be aware of material fraying if weave appearance is important.

Although the price is low, you get what you pay for

It works, but the carbon weave is a lot looser than Gorilla Carbon and other kits I've used to fix other broken bicycle frames. It's more difficult to get a good wrap without loose strands or distortion of the weave spacing because of the loose weave. The 1- One epoxy/hardener mix did not provide the fast stick needed for each layer to adhere to the one before it. I had the best results when I used my gloved hands to hold the wrap together, then used packing tape to give it good compression before letting it cure. br>I'll use this kit for simple wraps again, but if you're doing more precise work, it's worth it to invest in a better kit.

This is an excellent starter package
5/5

If you're just getting started with carbon fiber and have never worked with it before, this is a great product to start with because it's simple to use, straightforward, and the results speak for themselves.

It was fantastic—too fantastic! For a first-timer, it worked as well as one could expect
3/5

Check out YouTube to learn more about how this method works so you can get a better result the first time around. I made the mistake of mixing all of the epoxy at once, so I wasn't able to apply as much as I wanted because it all started curing quickly. Because just one layer will result in a flimsy piece, I may add a second layer to reinforce. Overall, I'm happy with the results. br>Be careful with the carbon; if you handle it incorrectly, it can fall apart on you. I used masking tape to keep the edges of my cuts together until the epoxy was applied.

What you pay for is exactly what you get
3/5

My carbon fiber turned yellow despite following the instructions on the internet and in the package, for reasons that are unknown. In the instructions included in the box, the mixing ratio is stated as 1 to 1. After that, I waited 48 hours to see what would happen. The drying time is 72 hours. The results are dreadful, and this epoxy mixture also traps a lot of air bubbles in the hardened epoxy.

Epoxy isn't the best, and I only gave it two stars because it wasn't too expensive, but everything else I received was full of problems
3/5

1. Because the carbon and epoxy are packaged together in the same tube, the epoxy can easily slide around and damage the carbon weave (as mine did).
2. The epoxy set and worked as expected, but the epoxy they sent was of poor quality. When the two are combined, they form a gel-like substance that is difficult to spread evenly. br>Overall, I'd recommend getting a carbon weave and purchasing some good epoxy separately.

It changes color from white to yellow
3/5

I won't purchase this product again because the hardener in the bottle is yellow and it stays yellow when it dries. The pictures don't show it as well as it does in person and in natural light, but I will redo this project with a higher quality product.
