Questions & Answers

Where do these come from?

They are made in Taiwan with stainless steel from Japan. br>I hope this information is useful,br>Heather, Madison Supply

Would this be able to slash through a pair of blue jeans with ease?

It's easy to use, and I've cut a couple of pairs of jeans with it. For the price, this is an excellent purchase.

What is the extent of their toil? Have you been using them for a long time?

I've been using them for about a month now, and so far they've performed admirably. I use them in the ER because they're very reliable.

Is it possible for them to pierce shoes?

Unless the show is made of steel, it should be able to do so if it is made of leather (cow hide) and the scissors are sharp. It will not pierce the shoe's sole.

Quickly wear out
3/5

3 Starts: These shears had great reviews, so I was really looking forward to them. I haven't had much opportunity to put them to use in the field yet. They've performed similarly to my old shears, with the exception that they're a little clumsy to open. My old pair was easy to open and close. I'm not sure if it's just my pair or if it's because of the coating they put on it, which adds a little more bulk and friction. After a little more use, I expect it to loosen up considerably. On the blade, I've already noticed the coating beginning to wear off. I'll update once I've had more time in the field with it. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> Feb 5, 2018br>The edges appear to have dulled quickly and are no longer cutting effectively. While they were initially sticky to open and close, I now believe they are too loose and frequently fall open. I went back to my old pair of shoes.

I'm not sure why there are so many five-star reviews
3/5

These came tightly screwed, and after a few times of opening and closing to see if I needed to oil them, the coating began to flake off. Without adjusting for the tightness, I would not recommend these. If used solely in an emergency kit, the coating could be tolerated.

It should not be exposed to rubbing alcohol
4/5

Pros: Cutting is excellent, and the finger holes are large enough to accommodate large fingers. br>Cons: The coating has a flaw. If rubbing alcohol is spilled on the blades, the black coating flakes off and lands on all nearby surfaces.

EMT for 27 years, these are excellent quality at a low cost
5/5

These are high-quality items at a low cost, and let's face it, those in the field are tough on our gear. We have a proclivity for destroying things at a rapid pace. Being a part of a non-profit organization is a great way to give back to your community. We supply much of our own equipment as a profit all volunteer rescue unit because we prefer to use higher-quality gloves, shears, and other items than are provided to us for free. br>br>I'm not familiar with this brand, but it looks and feels great. When I first got them, I went out into the garage and tried to destroy one pair. I used scrap leather, denim, and cardboard to make the cuts, and they all turned out great. br>br>A dollar. Cutting will be done with a 00 pair of shears. It's because on lower-quality shears, the pivot point connecting the two blades becomes sloppy quickly. These are, admittedly, of lower quality, but they are still tight, with no separation between the blades, and ready to use after failing in the garage tests. br>br>I'm extremely happy.

Excellent scissors for trauma
5/5

but big! For med scissors of this type, these are of exceptional quality. Steel is good, the coatings are good, and the handles are good. Everything is finished to a high standard. When cutting becomes difficult, there is no gapping, bending, or other strange things happening. Most trauma scissors on the market have this flaw, which is a deal breaker. And they're HUGE! br>br> If you're looking for trauma scissors for a backpack medical kit, like I was, I recommend getting the smaller versions. While I can fit them into a 5, I can't seem to find a way to fit them into a I can only do so diagonally with 11 6x6 molle med pack - that too, just barely. However, because of their size, they can cut with ease. Trauma scissors are a dark art, and it's a never-ending quest to find good ones. the search has come to an end These are exactly what I was looking for. br>br>[11/2016 update] - These shears are still in my first aid kit. They're still one of my favorite bands. Check out the Leatherman Raptors, though, if you're looking for SUBSTANTIAL trauma shears. For heavier use, I recently purchased a pair. They're absolutely incredible. However, the Madison Supply shears are too heavy for the backpack use to which I've put them. Any EMT should have the Raptors on their short list.

Sheers is a good Trauma
4/5

Updated on August 13, 2017 - These shears have become significantly dulled after just over a year of use in the ER, where they were used to cut off patients' clothes and cut orthoglass. They were excellent for a long time, but they now require replacement. In the future, I'll probably invest in a pair of shears that are more durable. Original review: br>br> Trauma sheers are excellent. I work in an emergency room, and these have never let me down. They effortlessly cut through denim, belts, and other fabrics. When I make splints, I also use them to cut fiberglass. I've noticed that they're losing some of their power over time, but they still do a good job. Others would benefit from it.

I wish I had bought this extremely useful item a long time ago
5/5

It's bad enough to have an elderly relative with medical issues, but having to worry about cutting them makes things even worse. He must wear three-piece suits because he is required to do so. I was afraid of cutting him when it came time to remove the compression wraps from his legs. Regular scissors were inconvenient and ineffective, and I had to be careful to keep the point away from his leg. But, thanks to this fantastic product, I don't have to be concerned about cutting the wrap away. Although the Madison Supply scissors are razor-sharp, the blunt tip prevents me from injuring myself further. I wish I had bought this extremely useful item a long time ago.

Shears that are excellent at cutting
5/5

The first impressions are excellent. I'm not a medical professional, and I've never worked with trauma shears before. Having said that, I had high hopes for these when I placed my order, and they far exceeded my expectations when they arrived. The build quality appears to be excellent. They're snug in all the right places and simple to use. They are extremely comfortable to wear. (I wear size M nitrile exam gloves because I'm not a big guy. ) br>br>It just so happened that I needed to cut some heavy duty nylon webbing (similar to seat belt fabric) shortly after these arrived. I ended up using the shears to give them a try, and they worked perfectly. I have an old pair of leather shoes that are about to be retired, and I'll be sure to put the shears to the test on those when the time comes; They should be able to cut through them fairly easily, in my opinion. br>br>As nice as they are, I wish I had ordered the stainless 2-inch uncoated. Instead, you should pack. The high friction cutting points were wearing the coating off after only a few dry cuts. This was to be expected, as no coating would be able to withstand such a test, but my suspicions were confirmed. The coating is great in the short term, but it will most likely wear out sooner than later. It's not worth docking a star because it was expected (and, in my opinion, unavoidable) in the first place.
