Questions & Answers

Is there a holster that would work well with these? They work with the batclip holster in a limited way, but they don't inspire confidence. ?

Yes! I work as an ER nurse and these shears are fantastic. I use this particular magnetic clip because it is so simple to use. br>Enter the following search terms into the box: br>Magnetic Cell Phone Belt Clip Mount, fits iPhone 4, 5, 5s, 6, 6, Galaxy S3, S5 and Galaxy Note 2.

What company makes these?

Michigan was the inspiration for this piece. Taiwanese manufacturer

Will xshears fit in the 5's leg pockets (the ones with the velcro shears strap)? EMS pants, number eleven?

Yes, they'll work. Like other EMS pants, the 11 has three pockets that run straight across the front. Simply place them in the middle of the front pocket and secure them with the Velcro flap. This will hold them in place without a hitch. These shears are slightly larger than standard disposable shears. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed if you purchase these.

Would they cut paracord (550) cleanly and precisely without fraying, even if it wasn't what they were designed for?

I keep a pair next to my desk (mostly for clampack and zip ties) and put it to the test on some Koch-style ties. I had a 550 cord from a local farm supply store that I could use. The X- The material was slightly frayed by the shears, but they had no trouble cutting it, unlike the Kai quilter's scissors and antique Wiss scissors next to them.

If you're looking for shears without the extra toys, this is the one to get
5/5

These are the best shears I've ever used in my eight years as an EMT and several months in the ED as a medical student. They're sharp, well-machined, and have tight tolerances to prevent cloth and zippers from becoming stuck between the blades, which can happen with less expensive models. br>br>For me, the choice was between XShears and Raptors, which cost twice as much, but which I chose for a variety of reasons other than the price difference. Simpler designs are slicker, making them easier to slip into pockets and sanitize after being soiled with blood or cast-plaster. br>br>The steel used in these, 420J2, is a corrosion-resistant blade steel similar to the Raptors' 420hc. Both are legitimate blade steels, and both are likely much better than what's used in other shears, but neither would be considered "high end" if used in a knife. In this application, both should be roughly equivalent in holding an edge, and both should do an excellent job resisting corrosion, with the XShears' 420J2 having a possible lead in that regard. br>br>With the XShears, I'm very satisfied. These will serve you well if you need trauma shears or simply good, heavy-duty scissors. If you need a pair that can open oxygen tanks, cut seatbelts, and do a variety of other things, I still think these have a leg up on the competition without the need for extra bells and whistles (the back side can pinch the O2 valve to open it, and if you can't cut seatbelts with these in your hands, the problem isn't with the tool).

I bought these for my medic wife because she had been using crappy shears that she had thrown out when they became dull
5/5

They're never very effective when it comes to cutting. She had no idea shears could be so superior. This is something she adores. After six months, she's still looking great. Other medics and firefighters have seen her use these things and want them as well. I'm hoping these won't need replacing for a while, but I'd definitely buy her another pair. br>br>Update from two years ago: The system is still functional. The bottom cutting edge has been worn down by use and could be sharpened. They're still cutting well, according to the wife. The lack of a pocket sheath is one issue. br>br> She keeps them in her pants pocket, along with the shears' strap. Over time, the tip wears a hole in her pocket, and she despises the holster - She found it to be too bulky and inconvenient. The shears in her pocket are a favorite of hers. She'd like a lightweight Kydex pocket sheath to protect her pants without adding too much bulk. They'd have to be made in such a way that they'd stay in your pocket. I'm thinking about getting some Kydex and giving it a shot. br>br>Great shears are still available. A better pocket carrying method would be beneficial.

They're effective, according to my husband
5/5

UPDATE: It's now been 7 months. My husband swears he will never purchase another pair of shears. He adores them and claims they are far superior to the more expensive ones used by his medical colleagues. br>PRIMARY REVIEW: My husband is an EMT, and the cheap pair of shears he had were causing him a lot of grief. He has to use shears frequently, and he claims that police and fire departments have asked to use his shears on numerous occasions. I'm not familiar with shear brands, so he gave me a list of names to research and purchase for him. I found these and decided to take a chance on them because of the low price. This is something that my husband really enjoys. He claims they cut through anything with ease and that he doesn't have to worry about folding and unfolding them like another popular brand his coworker uses. employees make use of Furthermore, the design is excellent, according to him, as they never get caught on anything when he uses them on patients. These fit in the leg pocket of his work pants, and he keeps them in place with the velcro strap through the shears' finger holes. It's become a running gag now that these are so cheap and he loves them so much that we can just buy him a pair for each pair of work pants he owns, plus a spare to keep in our car.

I've had the Leatherman Raptors for years and find them to be of exceptional quality
5/5

High-quality and amazing; I've had the Leatherman Raptors for years and they're fine, but these are far more practical and effective. As a Raptors ER nurse, I rarely used the extra implements. These are my preferred option over the raptors. br>br>As a side note, the Leatherman raptors are nice because they can fold up and are more compact, so if having scissors sticking out of your pocket bothers you, the Leatherman raptors are a good option.

Easy to cut fiberglass and plaster bandages
5/5

I'm a student of orthotics and prosthetics, so I'm constantly casting patients and then removing the cast. I've gone through a few pairs of scissors and even purchased a pair of $50 nursing scissors, but they've all been destroyed by the abuse I've given them. br>br>These scissors are hefty; in fact, they're a little tight, making opening and closing them a challenge. It worried me because I assumed the additional load of cutting would make it too difficult, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no increase in resistance when cutting things. br>br>I'm writing this review early on, but I was surprised at how easily they cut; if they become damaged or worn out, I'll update this review. br>The scissors were a big hit with my classmates, and they're going to order some for themselves.
