My husband has mobility issues, so he couldn't go up and down the stairs to our bedroom safely(15). That issue was resolved by this product. Although this item is not light, the wheels/tracks allow for easy maneuvering on a variety of surfaces. Practice runs with an empty chair and then a small person who does not have mobility issues are highly recommended to ensure adequate clearance and familiarize yourself with the chair's operation as well as difficult areas that may be difficult to maneuver, such as a short landing space. Also, if at all possible, have a second person assist in transporting a person long distances up and down stairs, in case the person in the chair becomes disoriented or has trouble keeping their hands and feet safely inside the chair arm and foot rest; this was the least expensive option. When it comes to solving problems, they go above and beyond. Not only their product, but also the company, comes highly recommended from me.
On the tracks, this does not go upstairs. You must support the weight of the chair as well as the person. I'm let down. I received a response! Great customer service but it ended up costing me $140 plus dollars for shipping back and 25% restocking fee for a total of around $350 for something that doesn't work! However, the woman was pleasant.
This chair was designed as an "evacuation" chair and is not intended for long-term use. It's best for going up and down stairs when the person can then be moved to something more comfortable.
It's simple to set up, handle, and use.
Our requirements are met perfectly. It is simple to descend our stairwell.
