When you have freezing or festinating gait, you can use the laser cane to re-start walking. When the switch is turned on, it illuminates when you press down on the cane, which is ideal. Unfortunately, after a few falls, the switch on my cane now does the opposite of what it should. When turned on, it remains on until you press the power button. Working in this manner is still beneficial as long as you remember to turn it off. I have not yet contacted the seller to see what he can do. I have PSP, which is a type of Parkinson's disease, and this cane is very useful, albeit a little pricey.
There is no logical reason why this should work, but it does, at least for me, with Parkinson's disease. Someone else might not be able to use it. br>I was given one of these to try by my neurologist. It would probably be a good idea if you could try one before paying $238, though I suppose insurance might cover it if your doctor "prescribes" it. You can make one yourself if you're handy. You'll need something to hold two AA batteries, and you'll probably need to set up some sort of press. turn- The end of the cane is activated by pressing the on switch.
