Questions & Answers

Is there a difference in arm width?

Arm rests are 19 1/4 inches apart on the inside edges.

Is it possible to put this in place for a short time after surgery and then remove it without causing damage to the existing seat?

Yes! It attaches to your existing seat with longer bolts; simply remove the existing seat, attach this seat riser to it with the two longer bolts (supplied), and you're done. Simply remove the riser, reinstall the old bolts, and you're back in business.

Will this work with a kohler low-flush toilet that I bought from Home Depot?

It is suitable for use with a standard commode. It shouldn't matter if you flush with a low flush. A fantastic item.

Washers made of plastic
3/5

I eventually got the seat to work, but not all of the parts were in working order right out of the box. To begin, the handles are delivered uninstalled and must be assembled. Due to the curved shape of the seat, one end of each handle is longer than the other. Only one end of the handle is extended to accommodate the curved seat, necessitating the use of a distinct right and left handle. I received two left side handles in the mail. I was able to move on to the next discovery with the help of a hacksaw and some force. The second issue is that they ship the seat with longer bolts and wingnuts to compensate for the increased height, which is fine. The new hardware, on the other hand, comes with plastic bolts. Because a plastic bolt will not grip a ceramic surface, the seat will not be secure and will slide around after installation. So, thankfully, I had a few extra standard metal washers on hand, which solved the issue. My 90-year-old mother loves the seat now, but it wasn't exactly "ready to install" right out of the box.

Has a good performance
4/5

It lasts around 3 minutes. 5 years. Not bad for the price, and I'm actually going to order our second one because this appears to be the best option with these product parameters. We may have to get inventive with the new one's fastening. Because the bolt holes are elongated, there is some movement. However, we've discovered that a permanent installation is preferable to a portable clamp-on because portables are notorious for skating around. br>You must keep an eye on and clean between the toilet base and the riser, which is a challenge because the toilet base is not accessible unless the seat is unbolted. I use my Lysol spray and direct it inward around the edge; it appears to work because there is no odor. I like that it can be installed under a standard toilet seat and allows you to close the lid.

This is something that needs to be revisited
3/5

This riser simply sits on top of the toilet rim and is held in place by two back bolts. The entire seat slides all over the toilet because there is no inner lip to fit in the bowl to keep it in place. For the elderly, who are shaky on their feet and have poor balance, this could be dangerous. Thankfully, I have a handy BIL, who ended up using plumber's putty on the top of the rim and thick, heavy-duty double-sided tape on the bottom. The top rim is held in place by a piece of double-sided tape on the front. There will be no more slipping on the rim. br>We're keeping it because we're hoping it'll only be used for a short time. br>br>Unless you want to glue it to your toilet rim, I would pass on this if you have a permanently disabled/eldery/impaired person who will be using it. It's a tumultuous situation.

My husband leaned on the bars within a month after the maintenance man installed a seat. The left bar had snapped. he fell. They were unable to repair the damage. We should contact you, according to his occupational therapist!.

Dangerous and untrustworthy! This is a seat that is extremely hazardous
3/5

The metal broke the first time we used it, and the patient nearly fell out of the seat. It's especially bad if it's your first day back at home after bilateral knee replacement! In the morning, I'll call the distributor. This product should be removed from the market or the problem should be resolved as soon as possible.

Returned
3/5

It didn't turn out the way I had hoped. The concept of this device is fantastic. Extend the height of a toilet and provide handholds to assist a disabled person in stabilizing themselves while using the toilet. I returned the item because the device was attached to the back of the toilet seat with the two bolts that held it in place. However, there are no attachments at the front or sides of the extension seat, despite the fact that the bolts provided were long enough to accommodate the device. When the extension seat was used without stabilization, it shifted to the left and right, creating an unstable seat that I considered dangerous to use. It was given back to me. br>br>For a local medical supply store, I got a portable bedside toilet. It was significantly more expensive, but it can be installed over an existing toilet, raises the seat height to the individual's preferred height, has sturdy handholds for stability, and can be moved and used as a stand-alone bedside toilet for nighttime use. When used near the bed, I fashioned a toilet paper holder from a coat hanger. I didn't look for this product on Amazon, though I'm sure it's available; I just needed something quickly before my wife returned home from the hospital. I was able to locate the item on Amazon Prime by searching for "bedside toilet. ".

It's pretty, but it's a little shaky
4/5

Installing it is a breeze. The only thing I don't like about it is that the toilet seat is bolted to the back of the toilet. As a result, the front moves back and forth from side to side. The arms also wiggle because they're just sitting in their slots for the sake of convenience. I'd prefer to have them bolted down so they don't move around. If you have a short person, keep in mind that their feet may not completely touch the ground when they sit on it.

It gets the job done
5/5

Purchased for my parents, who reside in an Assisted Living facility. The toilets there are, for some reason, the low ones, which is inexplicable. We had to replace this after it cracked after about three years. The issue is that between this and the toilet, there is a cleaning issue. It is bolted in place and cannot be removed to clean beneath it. So it was nasty when it was taken out and replaced! The bolts are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove. It was necessary to sever it. As a result, it's impossible to keep up with regular cleaning. Aside from that, the product is fantastic.
