They're fine on their own, but they're useless when trying to connect rods end to end. Because the inside threads and couplers aren't machined to exacting tolerances, the rods fit together sloppily and aren't aligned when tightened. If you don't loosen the rods, your accessories won't slide over the joint.
These were purchased to replace the rods on my bicycle. 15mm Rod System for DSLR Cameras with 25 Universal Aluminum Mounts The Opteka rods were only four inches long. 1/2" and just short of fitting a matte box in front of my Canon T3i DSLR. I'll have to include it. Lanparte 15mm Aluminum Alloy Rods (Pack of 10) to screw into the camera mount base so that these rods, which are threaded on both ends on the inside, could connect to it I can screw the original rods into the ends of these rods when needed, giving me a total of ten rods. This item is FINAL SALE and cannot be returned. Other rod systems cannot be used with this rod. I've recently lost ten dollars. Not cool.
This is a simple item, but the two rods allow you to set up a DSLR support rig with 15mm rods in the way you want. Each end is threaded, allowing you to extend other 15mm rods using an M12 end rod cap or a connector screw. br>I needed to support a long telephoto lens, so I used 15mm DSLR rig pieces. I'll be able to accomplish this with the help of the 4" 15mm rods. br>As described, they are made of tough aluminum.
I would buy it again.
I've purchased a lot of items from SmallRig and they've all been excellent. These rods are no exception; they have a great look and feel, are threaded, and are reasonably priced. Six inches is a good length for a nice, compact rail system in my opinion, but depending on your setup, you may need something a little longer. SmallRig sells rods with a variety of internal threads, including M12s, which appear to be the most popular.
It does the job.
They're built to last and are reasonably priced, but the best part is that they're almost universally applicable to any setup.
