The Harbor Freight Heavy Duty Flex shaft Grinder / Carver item#40432 came with this hand piece. As for the Harbor Freight tool, it matches this handpiece. Having the ability to use 1/4" bits with this tool was important to me. It is also easy to adjust. * * * ** ** The Foredom 44T is a very good quality tool, but costs more than the Harbor Freight model, but it is worth the extra money. This handpiece is great and I would absolutely purchase it again if I needed to. It is very difficult to find a better product than Foredom. Providing not just great quality but also great service. While I hope one day I will be able to afford a Harbor Freight grinder / carver tool, I will say that I still love my cheap Harbor Freight grinder / carver tool and it has served me well over the years. In my opinion, if you are a Harbor Freight lover such as myself, then this hand-piece for your HF grinder / carving machine will not disappoint.
My goal was to mount 1/4" tools using a flexshaft handpiece. This is the perfect tool for the job. The 1/4" shafts come in handy when doing power carving because not all of these handpieces will hold them. A portion of my Chicago Electric unit only required modification to the shaft and mounting ring. It took a little while to figure out, but it works nicely. I eventually intend to apply this system either to the Foredom Flexshaft system or the Mastercarver Flexshaft system, though it might be useful to have it on my Chicago Electric for just detail sanding. A note to be noted later It has been noted that some responses stated that no modifications were needed to make the shaft fit with Harbor Freight tools. It did not fit on mine because I have a different diameter shaft. In any case, this is an excellent handpiece. This tool continues to be used nearly every day on the Harbor Freight tool.
In order to be able to use 1/4" shank carbide bits with my Foredom pendant motor, I purchased this item. In the past, I've only ever worked with their smaller 3/32" bits, so I was unsure how it would handle a 1/4" bit. This has been an amazing experience so far. As I remove metal from an aluminum intake manifold using carbide bits, I am using bits that contain carbon. In terms of performance, the 44T has been good. The ride has tons of power, great speed, and is easy to control and hold. I like the Foredom much better than my pneumatic die grinder, and it is 90% quieter than my other die grinder. In fact, the handpiece and motor do get quite warm after about an hour of grinding, so I have been giving them periodic rests. Yet, as I mentioned, I am grinding hard, and I still think this device is doing a great job for something that's intended for lighter duty.
This is way better. I bought two extra of these flex shaft handpieces so I can easily switch between multiple tools while carving - I have a Foredom flex shaft unit. It is WAY better than having to loosen, remove, pick, place, and tighten each bit when I need to change the work I am doing, especially since I am often using multiple bits with different collet and shaft diameters. The use of three different handpieces for a variety of bits makes the work more efficient. Despite the problems with the handpieces, they are well made, lightweight, and reasonably ergonomic (although they could perform better, but they are WAY more pleasant than using a fat Dremel tool).
Added a little modification for fit and it's even better. The 1/4" shaft meant I could use my HF rotary tool with 1/4" shaft tools. Nonetheless, the HF shaft fits, but is not as tight as you would like it to be. There's less clearance than you might expect. You can either use it as is or as I did, use a fine metal shim to get a perfect fit. There are many parts you will need for improving the HF rotary tool, this is just one of them. Foredom Foot Pedal is the second, and it makes all the difference. After that, it's just The tool is nice. In addition to those two parts, you have foredom components when you are ready to upgrade.
For more than 30 years, I had a Dermal flex shaft 732, but it finally worn The Foredom I wanted was out of my price range so I purchased this H44T and a Foredom from HF instead. Almost exactly as my old Dremal, it actually looks like a spin off of There have been about six hours of continuous heavy use and so far it has worked well. My foot controller from the Dermal was heavy duty and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. I don't have as much power in the HF as I did with my old Dremal, but it's not bad for the hard dollar. The extended warranty I purchased from HF is valid. It won't be necessary to change the collets from 1/8" to 1/4", so I will order another one.
There will be no disappointment with this. I can attest to the quality of this product. It was a good product on the whole. I can use my 1/4" grinder bits with it because it has the collet design rather than the drill Chuck design.
It mate smoothly with my Foredom flexible grinder and can hold the tools better than any other handle.
