they have a weight limit of 420 pounds, I see no reason for it not to work. A couple of kayaks (loaded) weigh about 100 - 150 pounds each, and I'm using them to reach the top If you can't find anything with a large pulley, you might want to consider something with a large pulley. The pulleys on most pulldown machines are larger, so I see no problem doing what you want. (BTW, I lift weights as well, so I get My first discovery of pulleys, which are (I believe) 2, occurred when I was creating something for lifting. A sealed bearing is included in models 5+. Bolts were then inserted through the holes and the bolts were mounted. There was no noticeable jerk when moving. I had to set up a mechanism that could handle over 300 pounds of loading on the pulleys.

Can you tell me the size of the lag bolts you use for kayak ceiling mounting? Is there anything I can do to help?

The screws are 5" x 5/16" and are inserted directly into the ceiling joists.
