The construction is solid, steel, and two screws are used

This is a heavy duty machine. The response was relatively quick. Two screws are shown here, but that is all that is needed. The shaft can be held in place with 4 screws on some couplers. To crush up apples for apple cider, I am tying it to a 3/4 horsepower AO Smith motor and a modified garbage disposal. Whiz Bang Cider Press comes to mind. Steel helps with the mass and there are no issues.

This is a great product

This model of Sears lathe has a 5/8" dead center tailstock I used to bring it into the 21st century. With a Morse taper 2 live center, you will be able to pickup any kind of signal.
