It is not stainless steel, but rather premium medium carbon structural steel with fine plating, which has excellent rust resistance, strength, and deformation resistance.

How far apart do the mounting holes have to be?

On mine, the center bore diameter is 5mm, and the distance between holes is 6 mm and the distance between shaft centers is 8 mm.

Is this made of stainless steel or something else?

Using a magnet, I double-checked everything. They're zinc-plated steel, not stainless.

Is it possible to modify, machine, drill, or re-use these? What if you're bored, for example?

Yes, they certainly can! These flanges could be modified in any way you want if you have the skills and the right machine tools.

This was excellent, and I will order from you again. The rod is tightly gripped by two set screws. The edges have been perfectly machined and are clean and smooth. Excellent quality is used with solid and thick metal.

Set screws that are the wrong size

The set screws that came with the connector were the wrong size and would not fit in the set holes. M3 set screws are used in the set holes, and M4 set screws are used in the receiving set screws.

The flange couplings are nice and fit over a 3mm shaft without difficulty. My order was missing two of the M3 fasteners.

It is necessary to file burrs

Due to burrs (small wall formations created during the drilling process) in the tube part of the bearings, they will not fit most 10mm rods. You'll need to use a file to go over the inside of them a few times before they work properly.
