Why is it that buying 2, 3, or 4 units at a time costs so much more per unit than buying one at a time?

I ordered a Lovejoy coupling in size 5J, but it was changed to a 6H by someone on your end. I discovered that the Orange high-strength coupling is not available in 5" from Lovejoy. So I have an item on my shelf that I can't return because it's not usable. Please assist me.

It was delivered on time! Thank you very much. I've used a similar coupling before, but from a different brand, and it worked fine. This is the same type as the previous one, and it functions similarly.
