You can't use these to replace a flat belt, they're made for a V belt replacement only.

What are the connections on a riding lawn mower so you can replace the drive belt?

The belt of a riding mower is hit with a lot of torque, so I don't think it will break. The best use of these is for machinery that runs steadily.

Does this measurement relate to the circumference or to the length of the rope?

Use a flexible type tape measure to measure the length of the old belt, if you have it. Then mark the outside of the belt with a pen. To be specific, you must measure the outside of the belt.

It's great to have these belts! Since I've been using these belts on my equipment instead of tearing everything apart to remove the old belt, I haven't had to tear anything down anymore

The shrouds and blade protection guards for fans. Take your trusty knife and or side Dykes and cut the old belt off, loosen the alternator bolt and wrap the new link belt around the pulleys Mark the edges with sharpie. Twist the lock together and tighten the alternator. The belt on my Ingersoll Rand compressor changed in literally minutes on the job site. Keep the extra scrap pieces in your toolbox in case of a possible break down down the road. Pop the old one out, put in the new one, and you're back in business. I am Kenny.

The material is very I used this V belt on an 8N Ford tractor with great success

Having to disassemble the hydraulic pump assembly for the bucket is what it would have taken to install a new original belt. I really like using this tool for saving time and it works well.
