Having trouble with the belt tension on my boat lift drive, this tool was needed. I had hoped that if I pay close attention to alignment I would be able to make it work at least once. However, the "saddle" popped off the shaft instantly, and you could not get it back on. The concept is great (which is why I gave it 2 stars), but the design is seriously lacking. My only access to a welder prevented me from fixing it properly, so I made a seat holder for the "saddle" to keep it in place during the tensioning process and it worked. It was a major troubleshooting task, but was a.
Until the stupid tiny weld on the tool snapped, it worked perfectly for tightening belts on a boat alternator that was difficult to reach. Just a few minutes ago, I was thinking to myself, "Wow!" It's awesome that you did this! Then I said, "and then I said, ". That's it. It broke. Weld is no longer working. Is that true? Can you imagine the pressure that would be applied to a Tack Weld? The tool is a good idea, but the quality of the build is poor. If you cannot afford the cost of welding it properly, either save your money or don't use it.
Although I was aware of the poor reviews for this tool (also sold by others on Amazon), I bought it anyway, hoping that the quality control issues had been addressed. The sad truth is that they haven't. It is only with a tiny spot weld that the two curved "pulley pads" are attached. There is no way it could perform the job at all. My pad snapped off while tightening the fourth belt on day one when I got it (I must say I had gotten three belts adjusted before the pad snapped off).
This tool is spot welded on the ends, and when it is extended, the ends immediately begin to bend. The tape broke off at one end and I had to use gorilla tape to keep it together. It will only need to be used once. This is trash. It's my fault.
Everything worked according to plan.
Now that I have the tool, I can tighten my engine belts. We found it easy to make use of and it contained the pieces to span a wide range of It was broken during the second use when a weld broker appeared at the junction of the piece that fit However, I cannot rely on it as much as I used to.
The second time I used it, it broke.
My first attempt at using it resulted in one spot weld breaking. The broken parts were welded back together so it could be used once more. It doesn't seem like there are any better options available for this type of product. If you can please rework it Weld the 2 spot welds here, and you will be all set.
