Brass clamps like this can be found at Harbor Freight (and other stores). I'm not sure if there is any discernible difference in current loss between brass and copper due to resistance. The jaws have a limited range of motion when it comes to opening. This clamp works well for clamping thin materials, but it can only hold a one-inch square tube. If you're welding a table or frame, this isn't ideal.
The stock Millermatic 211 clamp has a lot less grip than this one. There were no instructions, so I had to look up how to use and adjust the metal band, and I couldn't find any pictures, so I had to wing it. Significantly better build quality and likely less resistance than the standard stamped steel clamp. It's difficult to use with arthritic hands, but that's to be expected as you age.
The clamping area is quite large. I was advised to get this for my millermatic 211, and man, what a difference in clamping area it makes over stock!.
It appears to be of high quality. I should have paid more attention to the size of the clamp; it's about the size of a playing card, with a maximum jaw opening of 1 inch.
It's not easy to squeeze this thing, and I'm no wimp. The handles are too short in comparison to the spring's strength.
The clamp is incredibly hard to work with. It does exactly what it says and opens 1 inch. It's not a big deal for me because I usually clamp to the table. If you need to clamp to something thick, I can see some jobs being a problem. This clamp, on the other hand, I adore. It is unquestionably superior to the original.
Compared to the original flimsy sheet metal ground clamp, it immediately improved the performance of my welder. Yes, the spring is stiff, which is to be expected.
Strong ground clamp that can handle a lot of current without overheating or burning the contact point. I anticipate using it for a long time.
