Yes, these clamps will accept 8 awg wire; I purchased a power inverter that came with 8 awg wire, and it worked perfectly with these clamps.
1 1/2 " wide when fully opened. What do you mean by "thickness of tip?" I'm not sure what you're talking about.
No, they don't come with lugs; instead, I crimped the cable to the clamps using the crimp tabs for strain relief and soldered the cable to the clamp (using a butane torch).

I just received this set and have yet to charge it on my old charger. They're big enough to be auto jumper cable ends, and their springs are equally as strong. The gripper teeth aren't particularly sharp, but I believe the large size and spring pressure will easily compensate. A file would change the teeth, but I'm not going that far unless I have a lot of problems, which, as previously stated, I doubt. The "half moons" that connect the handles appear to be sturdy, and there is enough room in the handles to add a short/small bolt and copper washer if desired. I'm confident they'll outlast the charger and then be put to good use somewhere else. They're simple and sturdy, and I'm pleased with every aspect of this purchase so far.

Replaced the plastic clamps that came with the booster box with these nice clamps. They are extremely effective.
