I snapped a spring hanger off the frame of my fifth wheel camper while traveling. I arrived at a campground and set up camp. I've worked as a professional welder for 26 years and all I needed was a welding machine to resurrect my career. affix the spring hanger to the frame with a weld. I'm a long way from home and my own welding equipment. Following some research, I decided to purchase a low-cost small machine to keep with me in case something similar happened again. br>Because of its size and low price, I was very skeptical of this machine. br>I ordered it on Amazon and received it two days later. I prepared the machine for welding by cleaning and repositioning the spring hanger. br> I had some 3/32 7018 rods lying around. It was no problem for that machine to handle them. I had to run the machine about 30 amps hotter than other welding machines (around 130 amp), but it got the job done. The quality of the welds wowed me. br>I wouldn't want to weld with it continuously all day for fear of burning it up, but it might be able to. This is the one if you're looking for a low-cost, light-weight welder that plugs into a 110v outlet.
You'll need to make a 240-volt adapter (or, in my case, cut off the plug and replace it with a 240-volt plug) if you want to run it at more than 80 amps. I'm wired into a 20-amp circuit. When I first turn on the unit, the breaker occasionally trips. br>br>I bought this welder in part to see what I could do with the cheapest 240 volt inverter welder on the market (at the time). So far, it's done exactly what it's supposed to. I've worked on some very thick steel (half-inch or thicker) on occasion. If I had to buy a new welder, I would choose one with a Hot Start feature. Although there are better welding machines available, the price on this one is hard to beat.
I was surprised at how well this worked when I used a 7018 stick and did some runs; I'm new to stick welding, so it's not perfect, but I quickly learned how to do it. This is fantastic because I needed to weld some structural components and had been told to use 7018 by a welding forum. It's more convenient than MIG welding, though the control is something I'll have to adjust to. br>br>Accessories, gloves, and a 120V to 240V adapter were included in the kit. Because the spatter wasn't as bad as with flux core welding, I think this is a much better option. Also, the sticks aren't too expensive, so get some while you're ordering this.
Although I am new to welding, this welder is fantastic. It was no problem welding 1/4 steel. After a 1 inch weld, it trips the power strip at higher than 90 amps, but that's the only complaint I have, and it's most likely due to me, not the device. Everything is powered by 110 volts!.
I can easily weld 6013 (1/8) at 140 amps (240) all day. Welding with 6011 or 7024 at any amperage was not easy. Those rods are not to be recommended. SS would burn through at 10 amps. Not a good idea to buy 06 stock. Small, light weight, and easily transportable.
I chose this 200A welder after looking at a lot of cheap stick welders and reading all the reviews. After watching a few how-to videos, you'll be ready to take on the challenge. I was able to lay down a slew of beads in a matter of minutes thanks to youtube. It's difficult to strike an arc, but this machine did a fantastic job. For the time being, I'm just running it on 110v, and it's been great so far, even though I had to turn it down quite a bit when working with some thin-film electronics. tubing for the walls The only criticism I have for this machine is that the leads are a little short, but it's small enough to move around and fit on my workbench without taking up too much room.
The job is done by this small welding machine. I'd used a stick welder before, but this was my second. I'm far from being a certified welder, but I'm pleased with the results thus far. I'm about halfway through my trailer project and can only think of one negative thing to say about it. Larger projects, such as the one I'm working on, are difficult to complete due to the clamps and lead length. Having to move the welder and table on a regular basis. Obviously, this is a simple fix. That was my only complaint right out of the box, but I made my own adapter cord and have only used this machine on 220v because none of my 110v circuits could handle the load. Overall, this is a fantastic purchase. It will pay for itself if it survives this one project, but I'm confident it will last for many more.
7018s have yet to be used. This welder has a greater range than my Harbor Freight 80 amp welder. The digital readout is also appealing to me. So far, the only drawbacks have been a broken stinger and an incomplete manual. In general, this is a nice little welder for small projects or repairs.
