Questions & Answers

Can it support a wide range of spool dimensional sizes?

It is a little loose fitting for the 'standard' 1lb solder rolls. There is 65mm between the flanges of the spool shafts or 69mm wall to the shafts Inside the holder sides, there is a wall. Through the spool, a hole of 17mm or greater must be drilled in order for the shaft to pass. A spool should have a max diameter of 70 mm. 55mm diameter is the standard diameter of a 1lb spool.

What is so special about the black special edition that costs twice as much as the standard ?

Prices seem to be the most important factor.

What do you think about using a desoldering wick inside of Could someone tell me if they've tried it?

It would be easy to cut the hole slightly larger so that it could fit over the plastic axle or bobbin on the stand. You would not be able to fit two full reels of solder and the wick simultaneously, but the wick itself would fit perfectly within one of the slots.

What is included in the sale? Is it the stand only or does it also include the solder?

This is all that's needed.

As the central component of a low cost solder/desolder station, this is great
5/5

None of these reviews can be disputed by me. It looks like everyone has hit the nail on the head with this gem. As I said, I haven't yet seen any of the ways in which this device can be customized in order to get more useful use out of it. . Each) with alligator clips (10c). They say it all in the photos. In addition to being able to hold a wide variety of items for soldering, the two holders can be used in numerous positions. As you dial the test indicator, let's see I've done that.

The solder stand is a great and reliable solution to declutter work areas
5/5

It remains securely in place and helps to make work areas The base is very heavy and the construction is very sturdy. We currently have two full rolls of 60/40 solder of 1 lb each so we have 2 lbs in total. With , you can do a lot. You need to enter numbers between 020 and 3. It is a good idea to regularly use solder of 031 inch diameter. There are times when it's appropriate to use. She has a total of 015. It can pull all three diameters of solder without breaking off any solder. While in stand with a full roll, the axles roll smoothly and easily. Solder could break off when pulled when using Kester solder, so those with reviews of ripped solder may have been pulling cheap grades of solder rather than a high-grade bond. Stand cannot be held responsible for alloyed solder that is too cheap. A stand makes it easy to store and retrieve solder, it reduces clutter on the bench, it allows the user to access two different diameters of solder or alloys fast, and it makes the task of switching out spools quick and easy. It would have been desirable to have decided this year's ago that we were buying something worthwhile.

Lead solder in thin gauge should not be spooled in heavy large spools
4/5

You won't have to worry about frustration if you do a lot of soldering with this stand. It is much easier to use the solder quickly and smoothly with a spool holder. My problem was that when you had a large spool of lead with a thin gauge, you had a hard time getting your lead wrapped and on there Because of the weight of the spool and the strength of such thin gauge solder, you will often break the solder when you pull on it. Only one suggestion I have for the manufacturer would be to use ball bearings in the spool holders so that thin solder won't break while being used. I would recommend getting smaller spools of lead solder for use with this holder if you wish to use really thin gauge lead solder. It is difficult to rotate the larger spools since they are so heavy.

The ease of use was the main reason I hoped this would be easier
3/5

My method of using solder wire has always been to bend the wire so it becomes This unit gets in the way of pulling straight from it, and I am cutting strips of solder with it instead of pulling straight out. There is a lot of weight to it- It is heavy duty and has a decent amount of weight. Despite my dislike for the plastic rollers, I do like the buttons. had hoped they would be held in on both sides, but the thicker inner part stays in place even though it is only supposed to be on one side. The rails cannot cross between sides, so it is not possible to drop one side in and have it ride the rail into the other Dropping it and leaving it to start over is the best way to do it. However, you could possibly predrill a hole and attach a washer or epoxy a thin piece of plastic onto it to prevent it from slipping. The Chinese units do have metal holders though, and they are cheaper. I do wish it was metal instead of plastic. In a spring style, the through-message is Soldering can be done with any type of solder in the large hole. The rods would also fit through them if they were welded There are far too large, in my opinion. In the cheaper Chinese models, the hole is smaller and there is a metal strip around the top hinge. A drill can always be used to drill through those. Furthermore, they do not connect with each other, whereas this I take advantage of the fact that the solder output can be angled however I like, but I have to bend the solder constantly so that it does not slip back through the hole again There was a lot of growth too, and not just by a little bit. As far as I can tell, there are no sharp edges on the paper Therefore, I consider that to be In general, I find it hard to work with. In one sense, the weight is a blessing, but in another it is To put in front of my work piece, to put on the left, to put on the right, and to put I have tried multiple angles from each location to get the best view. As well as diagonals, I tried. I'm able to apply this tool much more easily when there is a roll of solder wire I can use as a straight rod. I certainly can see this as a benefit by pulling the output of the solder wire up high, bending the wire down in an almost straight line, and then using the result hands-on No charge. The spring can be moved down little by little as you need to access more on the piece so that your other hands are freed up. It is difficult to reach the solder without bending most work pieces due to their size. I may try adding a third-hand clip to help make the presentation more robust. A 3 out of 5 rating is mainly because of the build quality minus the plastic bits and the super-slim design There are large openings in the soldering A holder with an obnoxious use is an irritant I am used to dealing with cases that are different than mine. Despite not being pads, these even don't come with stands built in for the soldering iron. I also wish there were some hooks on the side for desolder braid or jumper wire spools because the plastic rods are too thick to hold them. I may try to put braid and jumper spools on the carrying handle since the width of the unit is just right for my magnifying glass to fit ( I may try using it also to carry the unit ) but I find I do not use it to carry it.

For hobbyists or professionals alike, this is a great tool
5/5

A stand such as this is the perfect choice if you're doing a lot of circuit repair work or other projects that require soldering. In my experience, the upper solder bay is well suited for circuit board work and the lower bay is the best for a package to be assembled. These stands are built out of good heavy gauge metal with a good black powder coat finish. This stand is made of 050 solder for connectors and large ground areas, etc. This is an extremely easy piece to assemble (a few screws are needed). In just a few seconds, a solder roll can be changed. There is a guide in front to hold the leading edge of the solder as it winds out of the roll. These features make it very easy for people to use. There is also a rubber pad under the stand to keep it stable on the work bench or on the work surface and to prevent it from scratching the surface. Moreover, it has a handle on top that makes it much easier to pick up and move, and it is also extremely The solder stand was worth the investment because it effectively minimizes solder waste and allows repairs to be completed more quickly.
