Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this without using Etsy's capture feature?

Yes, if you open the labels from Etsy in the correct format (choose 4 x 6 when purchasing labels on Etsy), you can print them with this label printer. Also works with Amazon and any other website that allows you to upload a 6 x 4 label. br>br>However, the original labels for this printer are expensive when compared to industry standards; if you want cheap labels, I recommend the Arkscan 2054A. (The cheapest Third-Party labels for the brother are currently enKo labels, but they aren't the right size and don't work properly, so the original DK Brother labels are about 12 cents per label.) The Arkscan uses the same generic labels as zebra and other printers, and each label costs around 2 cents.

Is this printer Chrome OS compatible?

Go to your chromebook's settings by clicking on the time in the bottom right corner of the screen. A menu of options will appear in a tab. The settings menu can be accessed by finding and clicking the gear-shaped icon. br>Find and click "advanced" on the left side of the settings menu, then "printing." This will take you to a page where you can manage your printers. It should display a line with your Brother printer and a "set up" button; click this and enter the printer's name as: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer: Manufacturer Model: Zebrabr> Click ADD to add the Zebra ZPL Label.br>br>A message will appear stating that your Brother QL-2000 has been added. 1100br>br>If you want to print 4x6 labels like I do, you'll need to change the print page size to index-size. 4x6 (Postcard)br>br>With the Brother QL-, you can now print 4x6 (Postcard)br>br> On Chrome OS, the number is 1100.

Is it possible for Brothers to print non-standard media? proprietary labels, like those produced by the Free X printer?

Brothers can only accept proprietary labels, unlike the FreeX.

Is this printer comparable to the FreeX thermal printer in terms of wireless capabilities?

The Brother QL1100 is not a wireless machine; instead, it connects to a computer via USB.

Selected User Reviews For Brother QL-1100 Wide Format, Postage and Barcode Professional Thermal Label Printer, Black

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I've had a Dymo 4XL for about a year, and it's the worst; I literally threw it on the floor because I was so frustrated with it
5/5

Unfortunately, it survived, but it's been spitting out 3-foot-long strands of hair recently. I'm printing four blank labels for every one I print, so I've decided it's time to upgrade. By comparison, this Brother printer is incredible. It's simply a million times better. The moral of the story is that Do not purchase a POS Dymo. Purchase this, and believe me when I say that it is a far better investment in your mental health, stress levels, and overall quality of life.

Generic Shipping Labels (4" x 6") work well
5/5

This label printer is one of our favorites. It's great for printing 4x6 shipping labels straight from Etsy, and it's even better with the Generic Shipping Labels (listed as Compatible w/ Brother DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK-DK BETCKEY, 1241, 101mm x 152mm (4" x 6").

I'd give 5 stars if I could
4/5

I'd give 5 stars if it weren't for the price of the labels. I'm not aware of any generics for this. When compared to its younger sibling, the Brother QL-100, this device appears to be quite appealing. 700 br>br>I've looked everywhere for a review of this printer and haven't found one. In comparison to the Rollo I'm returning, it prints sharp and extremely legible, so I guess I'll be first. I purchased the Rollo in order to use free UPS accordion style labels, but it always printed poorly and illegibly from Shippo and Xpsship. I attempted to contact customer service three times without success. I believe that all they need to do now is improve their driver, and everything will be fine. Unfortunately, I was unable to participate in this activity. br>br>Place the Brother QL- into the machine. 1100 It's as simple as that. There was no muss, no fuss, no need to contact customer service, and I was able to print 4x6 labels that I am confident will get my packages to their destinations. I was terrified of the Rollo. That is no longer the case. br>br>I have a few Brother products in my house, and they're all great. If you have to choose between this, the Rollo, and the Dymo 4XL, I'd recommend the QL-100. The network model or 1100.

Labels are very expensive and not worth it, and there are a few major flaws
3/5

At first glance, this printer appeared to be fantastic. However, after a few weeks of use, some serious problems emerge. 1) The labels for this Brother printer cost more than 12 cents per label, which may not seem outrageous if you don't print a lot of labels, but there are alternatives that cost less than 2 cents per label. 2) Additionally, there are very few generic labels for this printer, which is critical - br>br>As of this review, there was only one company I could find making legitimate working labels, enKo, and they are a little over 2 cents per label, but they aren't the right size. br>br>Brother makes their shipping labels 103mm x 164mm, (Not exactly 4 x 6) and the generic enKO makes them smaller, 102mm x 152mm, which wouldn't matter too much if you br>br>Unfortunately, if you try to print on smaller labels, it will cut off parts of your labels because it sees those enKO labels as originals 103mm x 164mm. You can't force it to print with your specified settings, so you have no choice but to tell it to print on the original size, which has a few drawbacks - 2. br>br> br> br> br> br> br cutoff labelsbr> a) Cutoff labelsbr> b) Cutoff labelsbr> c) Cutoff b) Printing the label and then spitting out a blank label, presumably because the printer thought it needed more space? br>br>With generics, you get a lot of wasted labels, and I tried for hours to get this thing to print correctly on the smaller labels, but it just doesn't work. br>br> 3) If you plan to network this printer, there is another issue - Because it lacks an Ethernet port, you'll have to share the printer via computer, which isn't always reliable. br>br>I'm not sure if it's the printer, Windows 10, or something else, but when trying to print from another PC on the network, it almost always fails, and you have to uninstall and reinstall the printer. By using the network address, you can manually add it. Simply put, it isn't a viable option. If you require a networked thermal printer, this printer is not for you. br>br>I'm returning this printer and moving on to the Arkscan.

It's the most aggravating device I've ever had
3/5

Purchase is not recommended. You'll notice that I have a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews if you look at my reviews. I can always find a benefit to a product, but this printer is one of those devices I have come to despise. I want to throw it out the window, but my house is a single story and the crash it would make in the grass isn't worth the effort. br>br>Brother has made some incredible printers that I love (the 2270 if I recall correctly) and that thing has been trucking along for years now without a single hiccup. It's still brand new, so I've been 'test printing' and experimenting with different tape brands in order to get it to print correctly, but it won't. I consider myself to be quite tech savvy, but none of the brands, or the supposed interchangeability manufacturers claim, work with this device. What is the reason for this? Because brother designed their tapes to print just a few millimeters differently than standard printers in order to force you to buy their brand, which doesn't work even if you do. I get a feed, a lovely print, and when it cuts that label off, the next label is retracted so far that it falls out of the ejection area. So now you have to open the lid, line up the next label, and possibly print out a blank label and an actual label before starting over. br>br>THIS PRINTER SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS! You've been given fair warning.

BUYING_USER INTERFACE SUCKS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA
3/5

This is the most heinous piece of garbage I've ever seen. Whoever designed this user interface and all of the hoops you have to jump through in the correct order to even print a single label should be fired and never design user interfaces again. It's a nightmare. On my Mac, I am unable to print it. I've followed all of the instructions and used the correct paper sizes, but it keeps giving me error messages or says it's printing but doesn't do anything. This printer isn't fond of Macs, so be aware.
