Plastic and rubber are not used in making the Mats to absorb water. It may be better for you to choose the PM50431 Leak Proof Super Water Absorber Pads if you are looking for an item with a protective backing. When you describe them as "single water cleanup," does that mean they can only be used Even if they dry out, the mats are not reusable?

Designed to be used in a Single Water Cleanup, Pig Water Absorbent Mats (PM50581) can be disposed of after it has been used. Due to the 60 percent recycled cellulose content, these Water Absorbent Mats are not designed to be dried and reused after drying. Cellulose can potentially become moldy if it isn't properly dried and create an unpleasant odor if it isn't handled properly. Contact us if there is anything else we can do for you.
