Having used this type of hoist in the past, I know how it works. Indeed, they come in handy a lot. There was a rust through in a rear leaf spring shackle on my truck and the spring ended up in had a very limited space and needed a way to pull the spring end down for repair. My experience with this hoist is that it is as compact as I've seen, and it is rated at par with the quality of many others I have used in the past. I put a lot of strain on this little hoist, including a side load, with I'm quite happy with how things are going so far.
It was smaller than I anticipated, especially as compared to the chain hoists I had used in the past. I also appreciated its light weight and the incredibly practical carrying case it came with. Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to use the device for a couple of minutes. To provide a reference, I was lifting a 10 foot long 4x6 piece of wet The ratcheting mechanism got stuck and would only move in one direction for some reason.
