The weight of something lifted up 18 feet would require more than 350 pulls.
It takes about 20' to complete
There is no distance difference. In order to paint the pillars of a bridge, I used these to hang a scaffold plank under the bridge. There is no difference in the length of pull chains and hoisting chains.
It is possible to do so. 20 feet means a lot of chain in this chain hoist, which has a 20 foot lift capacity. This product is used in grain bins and tall buildings on my farm. Usually, if you have heavy lifting in your garage and your ceiling is 8 or 10 feet, I would recommend getting one with an 8 or 10 foot lift since the chains on the floor will get tangled with a 20 foot lift if you lift shorter items

The scaffold to support under a bridge will be held up by four of these. I found it to be useful for what I wanted. The issue is that out of 4 ordered, one was having internal issues. In the case of this unit, the brakes did not work and the unit rolled down when loaded with weight. When I disassembled the unit, I discovered a loose gear on the clutch side. The nut for the clutch would not get tight. It turns out that the washer was left out, or the machining was bad. I installed an additional washer, and tightened the nut with a safety pin. I believe that now everything will work issue is that one of the covers was hit hard in shipping, and the spotwelded tab that holds the bolt to hold the cover snapped We are only able to hold the cover on with two small studs. This will have to be spot welded in I don't think this is a bad unit all in all. I found it to be cheap It was more than twice as expensive as the closest American made, and it was imported as well.
A 300 lb weight can be raised with it. Fill a deer feeder with corn so the bottom is eight feet above the ground. As a result, it is very easy to lower, to fill, and to raise back up again to keep the raccoons and bears out of the house.
My purpose for buying it was to lift an engine/transmission onto a cart in a space that did not allow a rolling engine hoist to go. It was a perfect fit, and did not need adjustment. Please take note of the following Gloves are a good idea. You will turn black after handling the chain since it is coated with some kind of lubricant or protectant. As well as being hard to wash off, that stuff is sticky. With this unit, I expect to get a lot of use out of it. This is a good value for.
A hoist like this was purchased to be used in my shop to lift engines, transmissions, front ends, etc. The hoist has proven to be excellent so far and I recommend it to anyone who needs a hoist for small tasks. I've already mentioned that it comes with a long chain so that it can be adjusted to fit your needs. I like how smooth and controlled it is for picking things up. This hoist is not at all like the chain hoists I've used before where they made me feel like I was going to lose my teeth, but this one is extremely smooth. Highly recommended.
The six I bought were free after two uses and three of the six spooled after two uses, which clearly indicates that these items are unsafe. I do not recommend that you purchase.
The cost of returning it would be 1/3 of what I paid for it since it is so heavy. Although I plan on keeping it, I should have gotten a discount on it. The following is a list of Robert Wright's book contributions.
I have a 16" pole barn, so this will work perfectly.
The price is also better and the product is great. A chain fell out of the sky. Lifted an air compressor 16' in the air upwards through a hatch. It was handy that, when fully retracted, its size was only around 12 inches or a little more so clearing the hatch was no issue. It comes with a coating of oil, so it needs to be cleaned up with a few shop rags before use. This unit lifted smoothly and without a hitch, and has no binding problems.
