Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
Incredibly simple to use, with results in less than 30 seconds! Wait for the yellow mustard color to appear after dipping the lead detector swab in household vinegar. After that, clean the testing area and rub the vinegar-soaked swab over it; if the swab turns red, violet, or purple, lead is likely present on the surface.
There'll be no mess or hassle if you just throw it away after you've finished using it. Scitus lead testing kit swabs are non-toxic, odorless, and won't stain your clothes or skin, so there's no need for industrial hazardous material disposal containers or protective gloves. They're great for testing countertops, vinyl, plastic, and painted surfaces.
Each pack contains 30 lead detection swabs. Our lead tester swabs are the most cost-effective lead testing product on the market, as you can see from a simple cost comparison.
These tests are made in our facility to ensure consistency and quality.
Ceramics should not be used because the outer glaze is more likely to conceal lead.

Questions & Answers

Will this work as a dish-testing method? I have some antique dishes that I'm worried may have a lead glaze on them. ?

I'm sorry, but our test isn't designed for testing dishes. It will most likely detect the lead, but it has a higher false negative rate than we consider acceptable. So we can't recommend it; however, if you want to give it a shot, send us a message after you've purchased it and we'll talk more.

Is it possible to use this on stainless steel pet bowls?

If you think the dish is lead and there is nothing else on the surface, you might be able to test it directly on the surface layer of metal. If you think the dish is lead and there is nothing else on the surface, you might be able to test it directly on the surface layer of metal.

Is it possible to use this product to determine whether or not my kiln is contaminated with lead?

It appears to be dependent on the type of kiln you have.

I'm in need of a soil testing device. Is this something you can do?

No, we're afraid that this test won't be able to detect lead contamination in soil. We recommend that you use another soil-testing test that you can find on Amazon. We'd be delighted to assist!

They work, but not in the way that they were intended
4/5

These swabs are simple to use; simply soak them in white vinegar to activate them. When exposed to lead, the mustard-colored swab, in my experience, does not turn pink/red/violet. However, if applied in a slightly different way, they can be effective. Allow the cotton end to remain saturated rather than tapping the excess vinegar from the swab before rubbing the test area. Rub the swab on the area with the cotton end facing down, allowing liquid to accumulate on the surface. The area is lead-free if the fluid remains mustard or brown in color. Lead has been detected if the liquid turns pink/red/violet.

Make sure you don't make the same error I did
3/5

I'm attempting to remove the carpet from my stairs, remove the paint from the stairs beneath them, sand, and stain. Because my home was built in 1950, I decided to conduct a lead test before sanding the stairs. The stairwell turned bright red in five different places. In the bathroom, the same goes for the trim. Because I have a young child, I became concerned and called to schedule a lead inspection. br>Last week, a lead inspector came out and discovered no lead on the staircase. She used the XRay machine to check everywhere, including the bathroom, where there was no lead in the paint. br>Curios, I had to test the front windowsill because the lead test had come back negative. Her X- High levels of lead were detected using a ray gun. br>She even inquired about the test kit I used. These were unfamiliar to her. I gave her the rest of the swabs because they obviously don't work. She'll do some more research on them. In any case, don't squander your money. For no apparent reason, I spent an additional $125 on a real lead inspection.

The description is not correct
3/5

It can be used to test for lead in dishes, according to the Amazon description. In fact, it does not put dishes to the test! To me, this effectively renders it useless. I tested some paint that I knew was lead paint to see how effective this test kit is, and it turned a deep red, indicating that the product works when testing paint. It isn't likely to work well on anything else.

I really enjoy these tests
5/5

I wasn't overjoyed to discover lead in my basement, but swabbing surfaces and watching the swabs change color or not was fascinating. Swabs were changed as soon as lead was detected. I also had some lead ingots on hand, so I decided to video myself testing them, which produced a very strong reaction. I still have some left over, and I'm very happy with this product; it's a good buy.

Finally, a lead test kit that is not prohibitively expensive
5/5

Anyone renovating an older home (especially if they have children) is aware of the dangers of lead paint. We've been using the 3M testers for years, which require you to squeeze and pop the small vial in the middle of the fabric stick, which resembles a cigarette. That product is astronomically expensive, especially if you have a lot of things to test; I appreciate the function it has served in assisting our family in making informed decisions about the painted surfaces in our home, but the price was exorbitant. br>br>While this product requires a little more effort (finding vinegar), it is significantly less expensive and provides the same results. I'm overjoyed that I discovered these. Unless you absolutely must have a test in your pocket at all times, I can't think of a good reason to stick with the 3M tests.

For lead testing, this is a fantastic, low-cost option
5/5

After years of using the more expensive swabs, I decided to give these a try. I've been testing lead for many years as part of my job in occupational safety. These perform as expected and are an excellent value for my money. However, here are a few pointers: If you're testing multiple layers of lead paint, such as in an old house, use a razor knife to cut an inch-long shallow "V" through the painted surface to expose all of the layers of paint. If you don't, you'll only be able to test the final layer. On old buildings, I usually find a few coats of lead. If possible, rough up the testing surface with sandpaper or a scraper, then wait 30 seconds to rub the swab on the test site as directed. If you double dip the swab in the vinegar after touching it to the test site, the vinegar will be contaminated for future tests. If you're going to remove the lead yourself, make sure you're safe by looking up- For the sake of your family's and personal safety, follow the EPA guidelines.

My stomach sank as I realized what had happened
5/5

Let me begin by saying that this product has saved my life. For preschool, my three-year-old needed a lead/hgb test. His, on the other hand, returned with a vengeance! I went online and ordered this product before his retest because I'm an overreacting parent, and I'm so glad I did. Every wall/window seal in our house was subjected to a thorough examination. All of the tests came back negative, so I assumed I was doing something wrong because something must be causing it in our house because he never stays anywhere else. After going over all of the surfaces in my house, it occurred to me that I had neglected to check the back porch. I swabbed a chipped old cabinet, and it turned bright pink almost instantly. MY HEART FELL INTO THE SEA. But I was so relieved to have discovered the source of what could have been a potentially fatal outcome if I hadn't. Anyway, this kit was by far the best value of all the others; you can test a variety of surfaces and get immediate results, and it's extremely simple to use. I'm so glad I found this kit, and we'll be repurchasing it once we finish fixing the porch.
