The item is a bulb that plugs into a 4W UV lamp to work. Ballasts are included in UV lamps. You should probably buy a lamp rather than a bulb if you don't have one with you.

It's a good deal and it's well-made

This is a good Japanese-style dish. made uv- fluorescent tube, type b It won't win any awards for output at 4 Watts, but I know it's working because the room smells like ozone after it's been running for a half hour or so. My only gripe is that it takes a good 10 to 15 minutes to warm up sufficiently to reach full output intensity.
