Product Description

Cooling performance is good with the bulb condenser, which consists of a tube inside which a series of bulbs increase the surface area available for condensation. A channel of cool water circulates through the jacket which condenses the vapor in the inner tub. As another advantage of the Allihn condenser is that it has a large bore at the bottom, so that the condensed liquid can run along the sides without blocking upward vapor flow.

Condensers made by Allihn are commonly used for laboratory-scale refluxing and have a greater surface area than Liebig condensers of the same size. The typical reflux apparatus contains an Allyn condenser used as a reflux condenser, a round bottom flask, a drying tube to prevent atmospheric moisture from entering the reaction, and a separatory funnel for adding reagents. Additionally, Allihn condensers can be used in distillation apparatus and as a soxhlet extraction agent.
