How come the scale is for pressure and not vacuum if it's an evacuation gauge?

You're absolutely correct: any gauge, including the compound gauge included with this manifold, can only give you a rough idea of how much vacuum is present. My 93852 manifold serves as an easy interface between the vacuum pump and the condenser for me. You'll need a good micron vacuum gauge for this project. The only benefit of having this manifold is the ability to isolate the pump from the rest of the system.

It isn't much of an evacuation manifold. It's more useful when there's a lot of pressure. Before you buy something, read the terms carefully. I wanted to return it, but the terms were so bad that it was more valuable in my junk drawer. I eventually decided to buy a yellow jacket digital (a real evacuation tool).
