Is this going to work for 400psl nitrogen?

Yes, if the fittings are the right ones. Make sure the threads are sealed with Teflon tape. I use it at pressures around that, 4,500 psi, and it works flawlessly.

What is the significance of the label "2 in 3 out"? It's air. Is there a distinction between the two types of ports?

I just got mine and finished setting up my system. I'm not sure why it's labeled 2 in 3 out when all of the ports are NPT threaded.

Is it true that this manifold has five tapped locations?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure. 5 or 6 are my estimates.

Is it possible to use automotive RTV on the threads? I had to replace it because my brass fittings leaked at every joint

The tapered threads cannot seal because the body is too small to thread deeply enough. If you're short on space, you might be able to get away with using a heavy thread sealant like RTV from an automotive gasket.

The quality of the Viar manifold appears to be higher

Because the individual tapped holes aren't perfectly perpendicular to the manifold's body, the fittings are slightly angled and appear sloppy. No, I didn't mix up the threads. The quality of the Viar manifold appears to be higher. Oh well.
