Yes. It's a woven fabric rather than a solid. These, on the other hand, are lovely, and you can easily shake off the crumbs in the sink. They're also easy to clean.
That does not appear to be the case with the ones I purchased. It's possible that it will happen as the fibers dry out, but mine are brand new and appear to be in good condition.
Although the placemat is made of seagrass and is very tight, liquids will seep through.
I would never use them as a hotpad on a piece of fine furniture - On a hard surface like quartz or stone, for example.

These placemats have made me very happy. They're well-made, easy to clean, and appear to be more expensive than they are. In a heartbeat, I would purchase them again.
BUYING THIS PRODUCT IS A MISTAKE! I placed an order for eight of them in total. Only one of them was acceptable to a certain extent. Some looms were designed to be woven on bent frames from the start - They weren't going to be able to be undone. bent. Mold had grown on some of the seagrass. It's not a good idea to have something like this near your food. The color changed from one edge to the next. Perhaps they were imprisoned there while the weaving was being done. The mats had untrimmed strands sticking out of them. Others were made of seagrass of wildly different widths. Seagrass strands were scorched in other places. In a nutshell, they're flimsy junk - Neither your time nor your money should be wasted. The only saving grace is that I can get a refund if I return them.
They're well-made and look great on my dining room table. Purchased to "go with" my seagrass rug. They don't perfectly match, but because they're made of the same materials, they work well together. This is a product that I would strongly recommend.
These are fantastic at preventing white marks on my table caused by hot plates. It's also simple to keep clean.
I ordered two sets in the hopes that the colors would match, but that was not the case. The first set appears to be in excellent condition, while the second appears to be worn and faded. Make a financial savings. The one set appears to have been in stock for years, and you can tell it was sitting under something for a while because the edges match the first set but the center is dark and ugly. I should return it, but it's a pain!.

Everything went exactly as planned. This is a lovely placenta that will complement any color scheme. I'm using them to add a little extra protection to my coffee table and end tables. They look great and work well.
