Because this filter only removes sediment, there is no rated gallon capacity. The sediment load in the feed water affects cartridge life. Pentek sediment cartridges are made to fit a 6-inch filter. Life expectancy is 12 months.
This does not appear to be a match for the Pentek S1- 9 3/1 x 4 1/2 BB as it is.
This filter will not hold as much dirt as the polypropylene filter, but it will seal better and will not let dirt through when it is full (it simply shuts off the water). For the first stage, I use a poly filter, followed by one of these (or, better yet, an ECP5-based) filters. For the second stage, use the number 20. The ECP5-Pentek is a Pentek ECP5-Pentek E The number 20 has more pleats and will hold more dirt than this one, and it is also a little less expensive.
I used to rinse these and they lasted a long time. The filter was used to trap sediment in well water and did a fantastic job. Rincing is the most I would recommend.

If you're using chlorinated water, the product might be okay, but it's not recommended for well water. I couldn't find anything in the description that said it could be used with chlorinated water, so I emailed PENTAIR and got this response. br>br>The S1 is a one-of-a-kind, one-of-a-kind, one-of- Well water should not be filtered with a BB filter. The filer is a cellulose-based filter that works well on non-abrasive surfaces. The organics in the chlorinated feed water will metabolize the cellulose and treat it as a nutrient. The filter will break down as a result, and things will grow. You should use a filter made of a more inert material like polyester or polypropylene.
As a replacement filter for my well system, it was a perfect fit. After I replace them, I won't have to worry about them again. They usually last three months on average - Depending on the state of your water. There are times when I need to replace the battery sooner, and other times when I can wait a month longer. Simply pay attention to your water pressure and make adjustments as needed. With these, you can't go wrong.
To capture sand from my well, I've tried a variety of spun polypropylene filters. The sand clogs the filter in my lowest-level bathroom's faucet. None of them were particularly successful: Even with new filters that claimed to work down to one micron, the faucet would frequently clog up within minutes of use. Later, I learned that any cellulose filter will outperform spun filters because it is easier to manufacture a consistent hole size (trapping more particles of the desired size). This is a fantastic solution. I've had them for about a year (dual filter) and recently had them replaced. I only use the faucet filter once in a while. I haven't seen the mold on the filter that others have, so I'm guessing it depends on your well water's characteristics.
Because we live at the bottom of the mountain, where all the sediments collect, our water can be quite foul, and it can be quite orange. We have a whole-house water filtration system, and the filter needs to be replaced every three weeks. We needed a new filter one day, and they were all out everywhere. I couldn't help myself and placed an order. This was by far the best filter we'd ever used! It took more than six weeks before we realized we needed to change it. It feels good to be free of the vile orange water for so long.
What are your thoughts on a water filter? It either works or it doesn't depending on the size. Because I don't have a scanning electron microscope to see the pour sizes in Microns, it's difficult to tell if it's filtering down to the micro size it claims. It'll suffice for a few months, which is all I expect from these. I'm more concerned with the cost, and as long as my water doesn't change color, I'm fine.
I'm pleased with these units for use in my well's inline filters. These do wonders as a coarse sediment filter. I purchase them as and when they are required. They did an excellent job.
It performs admirably. It's safe to say that the wife is pleased with it.
