By sealing the crack, you can make sure that they are preserved. These aluminum files did the job I wanted, although they aren't very strong due to the fact that they are aluminum.
This is used to install a handle on either side of a sliding door to make opening it from the outside easier.
As I replaced the screws instead of replacing the whole lock/door, I was pleased there was no damage to the binding post holding the lock in place on my sliding door. Two of the four screws and nuts came with the package, but I had to use only two of them. My door measured 1 in. wide, and 1 in. deep. Since the screw was 75 inches long, I had to shorten the screw a little, but the lock is now firmly in place.
Was really good at what he did.
I was very pleased with their performance.
My new sliding door screws are thinner than the ones in the old door, but so far they have held up better than I expected (2 months in).
