To crimp the fastener, drill a hole of the proper size, push the fastener into the hole, and crimp it in place with a bolt and nut. I can get it done very quickly and it will be functional and tight. My toolbox has a tool for every size of fastner I own.
The Rivnuts are not as strong as the plus nuts, nevertheless I used them to secure two 2x10s to my van walls for a bed frame that supports two adults and had no issues. I don't know what their grip strength is, however, it is plenty for the job.
It may be necessary to use the correct tools and adequate material for installation.

After setting, there should be no spinning or looseness. The SNUG Fasteners (SNG204) come in fifty (50) 1/4-inch lengths The UNC Rivet Nuts come in a handy case that you can easily dispensing them. I am unable to compare zinc plated carbon steel with stainless steel. For an interior application, these were selected because of their ease of stretching.
These are carbon steel rivet nuts that are easy to install, however I found that they cannot handle much torque beyond 20 ft-lb A few pounds If the thread is stretched too far, the thread will unravel.
I have used these to repair some sheet metal items, and the permanent nuts they install work well.
For the job I needed them for, they work really well in both sizes that I have bought.
The nutsert tool fits perfectly in my hand.
I'm very satisfied with how they work. The moon visor can be attached to the cab of my suburban with these brackets.
In addition to 20% of the nuts being the incorrect size and one being completely molded incorrectly in my package of riv nuts, the job site discovered one that was abnormally shaped. The customer service phone number I found was non-existent!.
