I received these on Friday after a 20-day wait, but I knew they were coming from China, so I wasn't in a hurry, but be aware that these take a long time to arrive. When I tried to use one, I discovered it was cracked and would not stay in place, but it was only $0. 50. I'm not going to whine too much because I just used a second one. I bought a few hundred 5mm holders from the same manufacturer, which are of lower quality than the 5mm size; I looked at all of them and found some that were cracked; however, since 50 of these will last me 50 years, I'll take a chance and use 25 of them while discarding the rest. Pros: they're inexpensive, and the nuts that hold them in place are metal. Cons: they're inexpensive, thin, and easily break. Overall, I'm not sure I'd order more of these, but they'll suffice for the few projects I'll be using them for.
3 mm L is not compatible with these. There is a space between the L and the S, if I recall correctly. Due to the rim around the back of the L, and the side of the housing. I would have preferred if the front taper was larger so that it sat flush with the sides of the tip of the L. (The barrel is pretty much the same size all the way through) and the alignment notch (The barrel is pretty much the same size all the way through). and that the L's rim and notch had a designated spot. It has a poor design, but I suppose that's to be expected with cheap Chinese goods; they don't take the time to design a good product, preferring instead to mass-produce a large number of them and sell them as cheaply as possible.
I got about 35 decent ones out of the bunch, so it wasn't the best quality. Order two packs if you're working on a project that requires 50 of these.
The bottoms are flimsy and crack immediately if you try to use the included plastic boots, which don't fit properly, as others have mentioned. In comparison to the similar 5mm ones I've used previously, they appear to be of poor quality. When I use these, I'll most likely have to glue the LEDs in place, which is doable but not ideal.
I used it to mount 3mm LEDs in a panel and it worked perfectly.
Right side, I have a truck that I'm going to put the lights on, and I'm excited to get started.
These are what I use on my home-made guitar pedals, and they're fantastic.
