With the insulators, you will also find double-headed nails.
Hard plastics are a type of These screws hold up for quite some time. I use a battery powered impact driver to install the screws. Over time, the plastic above the screw or nail spits and I have to replace it. I have also used duplex nails from time to time.
As far as I know, there are none. If you want them to be farther apart, you could attach them to a board, then attach that board to your fence.

A healthy deer will walk through the fence without snapping off the plastic teeth that hold the fence in place. If you want to install it in a plastic base, then just tie it around it. It's kind of cheap plastic, but I guess that's the point. The electric fence wire breaking is better than the wire.
They are fine for what they are made One of my rugs has never broken on me after I've redone it several times. Easy to move and reuse in other places.
It feels a little flimsy, but it works for what it's supposed to do. A couple of them need to be replaced every now and then, but it's not too complicated. There was no longer a place to buy these at any of the local hardware stores.
Our horse boarding facility uses electric fencing (mostly wire, a little polytape) to enclose all pastures. Unless you use very small insulators, you will sometimes get an arc from the electric wire to the hardware cloth (most often Since these are long enough, they do not cause that issue. I love the size of these and that they were so easy to use.
This was enough to cover an electric fence in my garden with about 50 of them. *Mean well when it comes to maintaining their shape.
Worked great for me. The bar stood up to hammer strikes, and we only had to cut off an excess piece of plastic. A 16 may be too large for you. You might consider something smaller. The weight of the hammer is 9 ounces. Keeps a good amount of tension on the wire, while staying well fixed to the fence.
